Q:
Is this the recommended oil for the 5-speed manual transmission in the 1994 Geo Metro?1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
This part Advance Auto Parts 80W-90 Gear Oil, Part No. A137/12401 is a multi-purpose sulfur/phosphorous gear lubricants designed for API Service Classification “GL-5”. GL-5 gear oils are compounded with highly refined base stocks and additives to ensure extreme pressure characteristics, anti-wear, corrosion inhibition, rust preventions, low pour point, and anti-foaming performance. Limited Slip applications for top-off only. It is recommended for use in passenger cars, light duty trucks and sport utility vehicles. Always check owner’s manual for proper recommendation. This part is recommended for use wherever and API GL-5 oil is required.Q:
Is this lubricant recommended for a Dana 30, limited slip differential? How about a Dana 44 with ARB air locker? Thanks!1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
No, I would not recommend the 80W-90 gear oil (Advance Auto Parts 80W-90 Gear Oil - Part No. A137/12401) for a Dana 30 limited slip differential. The Mobil1 Synthetic Gear Lubricant LS 75W-90 (1 qt.) (Part No. 98W573) would be an ideal part. This 75W-90 is applicable with a Dana 44 with ARB air locker as well. Is this product safe for use in my Borg Warner T-18 manual transmission? After putting it in, I read that GL-5 lube is corrosive to yellow metals such as the synchros. How about a Dana 300 transfer case? Thank you!1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
Yes, it is true that some GL-5 lube is not recommended to use in a Borg Warner T-18 manual transmission. Some GL-5 lube is corrosive to yellow metals such as the synchros. I would recommend the Valvoline DuraBlend DuraBlend 80W-90 Gear Oil (Part No. VV280) over the Advance Auto Parts 80W-90 Gear Oil (Part No. A137/12401). Also Valvoline lube is GL-4 grade which is best suited for a Dana 300 transfer case too.
