Install is straight forward. On my car (Toyota Highlander) the backup lights are not connected by individual wires, and I did not want to drill holes through my hatchback to run them from my licence plate holder so I got a little creative. I mounted it to my tow hitch bar and ran the wires through the spare tire grommet and powered it by wiring it to the auxiliary power plug in my hatch. It seems to work well, no surprises, it just was not as simple as plug and play as I hoped for but that could just be my situation. I placed the transmitter parallel with the receiver about 5 feet apart (right behind the rear seat) and I have not had any transmission issues. When all the way in the back of the hatch and hidden in the spare tire hole, I would get lines across the scree.

To nit-pick, I would have preferred a wider field of view and a better way to mount the monitor. It also feels cheaply made.

I installed this on a 2005 Dodge Ram Quad Cab, 1500, short bed. The cable from the camera to the transmitter was, in my opinion, a little short for a p/u truck. I was barely able to get it in the cab. (Had to drill a whole under the back seat in order to get the transmitter inside). Overall this camera functions fine. It seems to work fine at night too, at least the one time I have used it so far.

One thing I don't like is that the monitor, when in standby mode, will flash on and off sometimes. I called tech support, and they stated it is due to it receiving frequencies from other sources around. That's the only downfall of the wireless transmitter.

The suction cup that is included to mount to the windshield is not of very good quality, and is hard to get it to stick (not a tight fit on moving parts). I was able to manage to get it to stick after some time though.

For the day that I have had this installed, it works as described so far.

The installation is pretty straight forward; took time to route wire to cab. The splicer supplied is not of good quality. I would recommend soldering the power supply to ensure a good connection.

I too had to put a black piece of tape over the blue LED, as it is annoying.

On my application I have a topper on my bed ,so I ran my wires thru existing holes on bed structure ; placing transponder on wall of topper with strips of velcro. I get good signal to monitor and it's tuck out of the way.

Comments about Peak 3.5-Inch Wireless Backup Camera System:

Unit operates a 2.4 ghz wireless. Package states it operates within a 197 ft. range. Mounted on 34.5ft Motorhome and video works only sometimes. Even then it's a very poor picture. After you start on the road there is no video at all. Moved the transmitter as far forward as possible, but still no luck. I had high hopes initially, but cannot recommend this product to be useful in a large vehicle.

This camera is not wireless as described on the packaging. I removed the unit from the packaging and found that several wires need connected to the vehicle wireing in order to function.I returned my unit back to the auto parts dealer for a refund. I would not recommend this unit unless you want to splice into your auto wiring.

I am one of those guys that tows everyday. I either tow a 28' pontoon boat or our pile driver for work. I have been looking for something to make my day just a little easier in the mornings. This looked like a great piece of gear but once its on and you move backwards the scene is distorted then clear then back distorted over again. Not the best but useable.

                    A:

Installation instructions for the Peak 3.5-Inch Wireless Backup Camera System (Part No. PKC0RB): The camera communicates with the monitor using a radio frequency (RF) transmitter. All you need to do is wire the camera's transmitter to your vehicle. The backup camera is attached to a mounting plate that is secured behind your license plate using your existing license plate screws. Customize your view by adjusting the height of the camera or tilting it to any of 5 positions. The camera must be plugged into the RF transmitter, which you mount in your vehicle. Note: It may be necessary to drill a small hole to route the camera wire. A plastic grommet is provided. When mounting the camera to the back of a truck, trailer, or RV, you might need extra wiring length between the camera and the transmitter so that you can mount the transmitter in the best location for your setup. Moving the transmitter closer to the monitor will give you a clearer picture. And the extra wiring length might mean the difference between mounting the transmitter in your truck bed - where it's exposed to the elements - or mounting it in your cab. To increase the distance between the camera and the transmitter, add a 25' long extension cord (PKCORD - sold separately). You can combine up to 3 extension cords for 75' of extra length. The monitor included with this kit attaches to your windshield or dashboard using a suction cup mount. The adjustable arm on the mount lets you change the position of the monitor to create the perfect viewing angle. To power the monitor, use the included 12V DC cord, which plugs into the side of the monitor and into your 12V accessory socket. This way you can unplug the cord and remove the display to keep it out of sight of thieves.
