When we were planning our trip, we found that we needed extra space, I looked into renting a car top carrier, but couldn't find one, then I researched buying one and found one at my local Advanced Auto Parts. At first it was noisy, but I took a couple of extra straps with me just in case and rapped around the sides of the unit tying all the carrier straps down and that made the unit quiet.

I bought this for after downsizing from a Van to an SUV and it was HORRIBLE!! The first tie down strap tore completely off the bag the very FIRST time we put it on our car!! Having no choice, we strapped it down with rope for added support and it did make the 12hr drive, but when reloading to go back home, a second strap started to tear as well!! Returned it AS SOON as we got back!! There are MUCH better carriers out there for less money!!!

Bought to take on trip last week and it didn't even make half the trip before the tie downs started ripping where they are bonded to the bag

It sits on the vehicle instead of on the rack. It is made of material that is supposed to be safe to place on the vehicle. It works well and is very easy to use. Held much more than the vehicles weight limit so be careful not to overload the vehicle.
