My dad and I have used Havoline oil since the 1960's. My old van's engine was used when I put it in the van. This engine has 166,000 miles on it and it still doesn't use any oil. The van has only had Havoline 10W40 oil in it.
My wife's van was bought used with a bad motor. We rebuilt the engine and it has 223,000 miles on the rings and pistons. The engine has a valve seat flaw that requires the heads to be redone every 80-90,000 miles. However, the heads are always very clean.
I change the oil on both of these vans every 2-3,000 miles.
A few years ago I spoke with a chemist that makes the chemicals for Havoline and other motor oils. He stated that the chemicals in Havoline were some of the best that they made.
