Cleaned the calipers very well and greased the contact points, installed the pads. Experienced binding problems and smoked the pads. Removed the pads and filed the contact points, reinstalled , same problem. Removed them and ground off a bit on the tabs and reinstalled. Work okay now, never had a problem like this in over 40 years of vehicle maintenance.

          • Q:

how long does it take to replace both front brake pads on a '94 Jeep Cherokee, on average?

            • CUSTOMER CARE

              A:

This will depend on the skill level of whoever is removing or replacing the part. Some may have a harder time than others who have experience with this type of project.

          • Q:

what would happen if wrong size pads are used ?
            Asked on 10/4/2011 by joshie

            1 answer

            • CUSTOMER CARE

              A:

Incorrect pad sizes can cause brakes to squeal that might be more complex and not so easy to fix. If you wish to check your brake pads in order to find out if they are where brake squealing comes from, you should start by visually checking them in order to notice if they show equal wear and do not look broken in any way. If the pads show an unequal wear or show excessive wear then it is time to change them.

1999 Jeep Grand...6.2 or 7.6 Brake Pads ? How can you tell befor purchasing what size ?

            Thanks

            • CUSTOMER CARE

              A:

It sounds as though some Jeep Grand Cherokees came with different options that then had different size brake pads. I recommend contacting a dealership with your vehicle information and they should be able to tell you what size you need.
