The old parking brake shoes were shot!! They work fine now..Not as easy installation as disc pads - more springs, clamps, and the expander adjuster was a little tricky....

                    • CUSTOMER CARE

                      A:

I'm happy to help, Jack! It's possible that you could install your brake shoes in the reverse direction. A repair manual for your vehicle may help you determine the correct installation procedure. A great way to ensure that you are installing brake shoes properly is to remove the tire and drum from the opposite side of the vehicle and use that for reference.

Remember always safely support your vehicle with jack stands and don't forget to place wheel chocks under your front tires to prevent the vehicle from rolling.

                      A:

Hi Sodaman, glad to help you! Instructions to replace emergency brakes in a Ford F-Series: The emergency brakes for the Ford F-Series use the disc brakes on the rear wheels. Move the vehicle over a hoist and place it in neutral gear. Release the parking brake control completely. Remove the left A-pillar lower trim panel. Use an assistant to pull down on the intermediate parking brake cable until the parking brake control sector rotates to its stop. Insert a 4mm retainer pin to release the parking brake cable tension. Disconnect the cable at the cable-to-cable union with a socket wrench. Remove the rear brake disc, brake shoe adjuster screw and brake shoe adjuster screw spring with a Phillips screwdriver. Remove both brake shoe hold-down springs, pins and the brake shoe retracting spring. You can now remove the parking brake shoes. Lubricate the new parking brake shoes where they contact the wear pad. Install the new shoes and ensure they are centered. Complete the installation by reversing the removal procedure and use the parking brake shoe adjuster wheel to set the parking brake shoe clearance to 0.6mm.

                      A:

Hi Bradmacc, glad to assist you! In cars, the parking brake, also called hand brake, emergency brake, or e-brake, is a latching brake usually used to keep the vehicle stationary. It is sometimes also used to prevent a vehicle from rolling when the operator needs both feet to operate the clutch and throttle pedals. Automobile hand brakes usually consist of a cable directly connected to the brake mechanism on one end and to a lever or foot pedal at the driver's position. The mechanism is often a hand-operated lever (hence the hand brake name), on the floor on either side of the driver, or a pull handle located below and near the steering wheel column, or a (foot-operated) pedal located far apart from the other pedals.
