05 Chevy 1500 Silverado 4WD. Do yourself a favor when replacing these shoes-disconnect the parking brake cable where it splits under the drivers door. Doing so makes this job much easier and that tip isn'tin the factory manual. Hook the cable onto the rear shoe(BTW it's nice that these shoes come with all new hardware) AFTER putting the gigantic hold down spring onto the backing plate-you"ll struggle otherwise.Get the rear shoe in position and held in with the humongous hold down spring, then put the front shoe in. Reinstall the adjuster, adjuster lever and then the adjuster lever spring. Not many parts due to the GINORMOUS spring holding the shoes in.

These brakes are terrible!!! DO NOT Buy These!!! I installed these on my 2007 Silverado last year, and will never, ever again. First of all, there were absolutely NO instructions included in the box (Which is actually typical of most manufacturers.) Secondly, While installing the emergency brake cable (which I worked on for over an hour), the piece in which the knob on the end of the E-Brake cable fits into bent! I had to put SO MUCH pressure to compress the spring in order to get the knob into place that the E-Brake bracket portion of the brake shoe actually bent open. I had to use pliers and bend it back. The tip provided by one of the previous commenters to disconnect the cable at the split under the door would have been SUCH a lifesaver!!! Anyway...now (after 11 months/~25K miles) I just inspected it again because it started squeaking after like ~20,000 miles. The drum was FULL of fine brown dust. These brakes seem to be wearing really quickly. I'm going back this week to provide the salesman some "feedback" on the product that he so confidently recommended, and then buy some Wagners!

6 months in already had to be replaced under warranty

Comments about Wearever Brake Shoes - Rear:

In March i put these on my 05 Silverado crew cab. Now into the first week of September and my Truck was annoyingly squeaking at every brake and turn, my mechanic who does my repairs and whom I trust for all my mechanical work said and showed me how the right shoe was starting to crack down the middle of the ceramic shoe material. He said these should be replaced after only 6 months of normal commuting use, talk about poor quality control. I give these 3 stars because Advance stood by their lifetime warranty and as soon as I gave my receipt I was out the front door with replacements, we'll see how these shoes hold up, too soon to tell if i would recommend.

Comments about Wearever Brake Shoes - Rear:

Brakes seem to work well. Have only had them on for about 2 weeks. No noise or problems as of now. Unknown how they will hold up for life span. I have brake drums that have a single U shaped spring. This spring goes on easily with a speciality tool or with two people. I had a friend put vise grips on both ends of the spring and pull back. While he did this I slipped the new shoes into place. Without a speciality tool you can't put these shoes on by yourself.

This is old school resign. Where the cable latches in had to be opened slighly more. But once broke in I think vehicle will brake just fine.
