The rear brakes on the Ford Focus rarely need replaced. Usually, I clean them and they are good to go. When the Focus is above 125,000 miles, I usually change the rear shoes as good measure; most of the work is unbolting the rear hub assembly. Keep in mind that unless you are replacing the drum, you should unbolt the four bolts that hold the hub assembly from the rear. The spindle nut can only be re-torqued so many times. Also, if you are replacing a drum or bearing, you might as well order the drum with the bearing already pressed in. With respect to Focus bearings, order the best money can buy. I have found that the lesser expensive bearings do not hold up.

These installed fine with replacement brake drums but have an annoying squeak at low speeds just before stopping. Not a problem before replacing the original pads.

Comments about Wearever Brake Shoes - Rear:

Shoes looked like OEM. I sure am glad this job doesn't need to be done very often. The OEM rear brakes have lasted until now at 123230 miles. The fronts do most of the work. The adjuster mechanism is a little tough to get set up correctly. Make sure to do one side at at time so you can look at the other side if you need to. The shoe retaining pins and associated locks are included in the parts kit which is sold separately but highly recommended. I needed a drum puller which I borrowed from Advance.

Hi is this product just the shoes, or does it include the spring kit also? I have seen customer reviews saying this is an all-in-one kit but the actual description doesn't say anything like that. Thanks.

              A:

Great catch Ben! I checked into the shoes and this product is just the brake shoes. You would need the brake drum hardware kit separately. The hardware kit for the 2000-2011 Ford Focus is Part No. 17241. I recommend replacing your hardware with any drum brake installation since those parts have likely been in use for many miles and it's great insurance for the price.

The easiest way is to turn in the old pads to a local Advance Auto Parts. If there is no store in your area, then you will have to ship the old one back to us.
