It's good to understand how brake fluid works. I've done some research and found that no liquids are really compressable. Brake Fluids are designed to meet specific standards that keep them working in cars where other liquids might not. Oils damage rubber seals & hoses, therefore, brake fluids are not petroleum-based. Most brake fluids used today are glycolether based, but mineral oil and silicone (DOT 5)based fluids are also available. Synthetic brake fluid typically refers to brake fluid made out of some silicone substance. While most brake fluids are mineral-based, the arguement can be made that all BF are synthetic, but synthetic brake fluid simply means that it is silicone based. DOT-3 has a common dry boiling point of 405F (meaning before fluid has absorbed a certain amount of moisture). The wet boiling point is about 284 degrees ferenheight. Automotive professionals agree that brake fluids should be flushed & changed every 1-2 years. All brake fluids must meet Federal Standards concerning viscosity, corrosion, and compressibility. The fact of the matter is, that in terms of performance, it makes no difference whether you use synthetic brake fluid, or not. The important difference is the type of fluid you use, ie; DOT3, DOT4, and DOT5. The first two can absorbe water (which is generally a bad thing), while the latter does not. Hope this helps. Alex.

Previous fluid (Valvoline) was fine (light amber color) after 2 years of use. This fluid (Wearever) turned dark green in under 8 months. Back to using Valvoline and not having any discoloration issues (1 year and counting).

Had to replace calipers on my 1999 Blazer. This product is great for refilling brake fluid while bleeding the lines.

Not much to say here. It is brake fluid, nothing special. It does the job that you want it to do. I recommend that you purge your fluid when changing brake pads, calipers, or any other brake maintenance. Just like you would with engine motor oil, brake fluid can also become junky.

Good value for a quart of basic DOT3 fluid, whether you need it for brakes or a clutch.
I bought one to refill and bleed the brake system in a 96 Accord after replacing the rear brake lines and still had fluid left to spare in the bottle. This is the size you want for such jobs. If you're only topping up a reservoir or two, go with a 12 fl. oz. bottle.

Just finished replacing all the brake lines on a 1999 Dodge 3500. I replaced calipers on the front, did not do wheel cylinders or master cylinder. Whether or not I can put synthetic in an older system that had conventional in it, I don't know. I use this when fixing older vehicles and it works great. I am old school and always purge the nasty fluid from calipers when I do not replace them, doing that this fluid has worked fine.
