  • Q:

Wouldn't steel pistons tolerate higher braking temperatures without deforming and be superior to the Phenolic Pistons used in these rebuilds? Thank you for your reply!

Happy to answer your question Gene! Fenco rebuilds these calipers back to OE (original equipment) spec. Typically the OEM (original equipment manufacturer) will use phenolic plastic to save on weight, and will use a blend that is heat resistant. The only time when you would run into a issue where they deform is if you are doing braking that is out of the ordinary such as hauling a load or very heavy braking after hard acceleration for extended periods of time. You shouldn't have an issue with these calipers unless you are doing braking that is out of the ordinary. To give you another example of this plastic, it is commonly used in water pump impellers, intake manifolds, distributor caps and rotors. Phenolic plastic is resistant to not only heat but to electricity and abrasive chemicals.
