          A:

Hi Jsa, I'm glad to assist you. The Walker Catalytic Converter - Standard Universal (Part No. 15042) can not be installed backwards. You have to install the muffler on the side where the hanger is leading towards and connect the front pipe in the opposite side.

        • CUSTOMER CARE

          A:

I'm happy to help, George! This Walker Standard Universal Catalytic Converter (Part No. 15042) is engineered to replace only the rear catalytic converter on your 1994 Ford F-150. The front catalytic converter that is necessary for use with your truck is Walker Standard Universal Catalytic Converter (Part No. 15022). These converters are both universal and you do not need to do anything to the A.I.R. tubes, they have a cap on them that must be cut off if they are to be used.

You could also install a direct fit converter designed to replace both of your original converters, such as Walker Standard Direct Fit Catalytic Converter (Part No. 15742) or Walker Standard Universal Catalytic Converter (Part No. 15142). Part No. 15142 will also work with your Y-pipe and keep your truck legal.

          A:

Yes, this Walker Catalytic Converter - Standard Universal - part# 15042 needs to be welded in place and would be an ideal part for your 1995 Chevrolet Camaro. However, I would suggest you to get assistance from a certified mechanic when installing this catalytic converter in order to avoid intermittence. • Q:

        Hello,
What is the difference between this cat conv (Walker 15042) and Walker model 15142? They look identical, specs are almost identical but this model says it replaces the rear OE cat conv, while 15142 says it replaces both. I have a 1991 Ford F-150 XLT Lariat, 5.0L V8. Can't I use this model (15042) to replace both OE converters since it appears to be identical to 15142? Thank you.
Asked on 1/27/2013 by Jose from San Juan, PR

        1 answer

        • CUSTOMER CARE

          A:

With reference to your query, the difference is follows: the maximum engine size for Walker Catalytic Converter - Standard Universal part# 15042 is 5.9L and the maximum engine size for Walker Catalytic Converter - Standard Universal part# 15142 is 7.5L. The part# 15042 is recommended to use for rear side on your 1991 Ford F-150 5.0L. Hence it should not be used to replace both OE converters. The part# 15142 replaces both front & rear OE converters. For more information, please feel free to call us at 1-877-238-2623 or visit your nearest Advance Auto Parts store and one of our technicians would be more than happy to assist you.

Universal Catalytic Converters may be used on most cars and light trucks on the road today, but to be installed on a vehicle they do in most cases require, specific cutting and welding of the exhaust system.

This is a universal catalytic converter and not a direct replacement for your Grand Caravan. This universal part is meant to fit a wide variety of certain vehicles that from what it looks like, use an air pump. For assistance in finding the correct catalytic converter for your vehicle please provide the engine size of your van or give us a call at 1-877-ADVANCE (238-2623).
