Comments about Wagner ThermoQuiet Ceramic Brake Pads - Front (4-Pad Set):

The install went very well on these. I installed new rotors along with these pads. They work fantastic except that after about a year (8 to 10 thousand miles to and from work) they started to screech very loudly and badly to the point that it was embarrassing pulling up to my kids school or in traffic. These weren't squealing, they were screeching very high pitch like metal on metal and it is enough that everyone turns their heads to look at me in traffic or anywhere. I was upset that they had already worn down and so I started to pull them to replace them under warranty one weekend. I found that they still had most of the pad on them so I re-greased the backs with the heavy duty ceramic pad grease and re-installed them. They were fine again for about another 5 thousand miles and then they started screeching again. So I had to pull and grease them again. Now, after about another 5 to 6 thousand miles including a two thousand mile road trip, they are squealing/screeching again. This morning I dropped my kids off at school about half a block away so that I wouldn't embarrass them. I have since gone into business for myself and have started using my truck for service. It is unacceptable to pull up in front of a customer's home and come screeching to a stop. I have tried feathering the brakes and stopping sharply to get around the sound. Nothing works. I am not hard on my brakes at all. I am going to purchase another set of pads. I will not be purchasing anything ceramic anymore. They work fantastic and do what they are supposed to, but they are very noisy. ThermoQuiet my bottom. These have been a waste of money and a lesson in grief.

This went on my Dodge 1500 quad. My first brake job and it went very well and installed very easily. Brakes work well right out of the garage. Have only put on a couple thousand miles on them but they are working well so far!

How are they installed. They have bags of clips etc that I have not dealt with on changing the brake pads before. No instructions included. They are Wagner Thermo Quiet MX966B and it is a 2002 Dodge Truck.

          A:

Hi Glenn, glad to help! Here is the instructions to replace Wagner thermoquiet brake pads. Park your vehicle on a flat surface. Maneuver the floor jack so that it's set under your car's undercarriage. Crank the jack so that it begins raising your car. You can stop lifting it once your tires are off the ground high enough to remove them. Place jack stands around the perimeter of your car to set it in place. Loosen the lug nuts on the tire and pull them off. Place them aside, so that they won't get lost. Pull the tire out of the well of the vehicle. Find the caliper that attaches the brake pads to the brake -- the caliper is a rectangle-shaped piece, and the brake pads are positioned inside of it. Both pads are attached to the brake. Remove the bolts from the caliper and slide it away from the brake. Set aside these bolts, so that they don't get lost. Flip the caliper over and you'll notice that the pads are attached to the caliper by a bolt. Loosen and remove this bolt, also setting them aside, and strip the pads off the caliper. Press the ThermoQuiet pads in place inside the caliper, in the same manner in which the old pads were installed. Tighten the new pads by screwing the bolts in place. Reattach the caliper to the brake and tighten it, using the same bolts you had previously removed. Attach the tire back into the well and screw it in place by tightening the tire bolts. Take away the jack stands and carefully lower the vehicle back to ground level.
