I tried to save a few dollars and installed some of the Advance Auto Silver pads on my 2000 Odyssey and was very unhappy with them. They sounded like they were grinding away and you could feel the pads and rotors disagreeing through the pedal. I checked the installation and operation of the pads and calipers several times over the course of a year and eventually just swapped them out for the Wagner pads. Night and Day. These pads feel great, grip well, are silent, and were a great price. Do yourself a favor and spring for these pads instead of the cheaper ones.

I'm a newbie on brakes and would be the first timer for changing the pad but I have done a lot of study/video watching online and have worked on many other parts of the cars and handy on things in general. Just brought this pad. But I'm surprised upon open the package to see they are not all the same thickness - 2 of them are thicker than the other 2. Is this what it supposed to be? If so, will the thicker ones go inside of the rotor? No where I researched mentioned pads aren't the same thickness that's why I would like to double check. Also it's not clear to me where the warning clip should be put on the pad (there is no pre-made grove for it) and there is no instruction what so ever provided either. Maybe I should buy the regular ones not this modern ThermalQuite integrated pad that's kind of confusing. Thanks for your inputs.

Comments about Wagner ThermoQuiet Ceramic Brake Pads - Front (4-Pad Set):

I've put these pads on three different cars--one car and two minivans. These pads do not require shims and do not make any noise. They also really last. Often my rotors wear out before the pads. They are all I buy.

Nice initial bite, good stopping power with average pedal pressure. Much more quiet and far less dust than the Hawk LTS pads they replaced, yet pedal feel is better.

Why are these ceramic and not semi metallic like the rear set of this thermo quiet series? Does the front thermo quiet series of pads come in semi metallic material like the rear set? If not why are they different materials? I am replacing all pads on a 2004 Honda Odyssey EX-L. Thank you.

                        A:

I'm happy to help, Bob! I apologize we do not have the Semi-metallic make in the ThermoQuiet series available online. You can use the ceramic and Semi-metallic in the front and rear respectively and it will not affect the braking performance of your Odyssey. It is not recommended to mixup these pads in the Front or rear (for ex Front right metallic and front left semi metallic or rear vice versa). The only difference between these parts is that the Ceramic is made of copper fiber and ceramic while Semi-metallic is made of metal fibers. These are just two types of brake pads and there are is not much difference between the quality that separates them.

                        A:

Brake pads are only sold in either a set for the front or a set for the rear. If you provide the year, make, model and engine size of the vehicle in question, I can tell you whether these are for the front of that vehicle or the rear of that vehicle.
