Epoxy sets up strong and is resistant to most chemicals and sunlight, so it should be an awesome alternative to powdercoating a motorcycle frame.

I've used Appliance Epoxy paint for 10 years because its the most durable thing I could find. Its so nice to now find Epoxy paint in Satin, which matches the look of Chassis paint so much better.

          • Q:

can I use this to paint my exhaust pipe, or use it on any parts of my engine? if not, what do you recommend?
Asked on 9/12/2014 by Panagiota from lowell, ma

            1 answer

            • CUSTOMER CARE

              A:

I'm happy to help, Panagiota! I would suggest using a paint that is designed for engines specifically to paint the engine. Search "engine paint" on the AdvanceAutoParts.com website and you will find a large selection of engine paints available. This VHT Paint Epoxy, Satin Black (Part No. SP652) is designed for frames and roll bars or nerf bars with a heat handling of 250 degrees Fahrenheit. Engine paint can handle up to 650 degrees.

To paint the highest temperature parts of your exhaust, like headers or exhaust manifolds, I suggest using VHT Flameproof Paint (Part No. SP102 or SP117) which can withstand temperatures up to 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit.

          • Q:

I have several small aluminum parts that attach to gun barrels that need to be painted black. The parts are make manufactured from 6061/6063 aluminum. Would you recommend this epoxy paint for such projects and without a primer? If primer is required, what would you recommend?

Thanks and have a great day!
Asked on 9/10/2014 by Jimmy from Milton, Fl

            1 answer

            • CUSTOMER CARE

              A:

I'm happy to help, Jimmy! Aluminum can be a tough material to get paint to adhere to. A self etching primer, such as 3M Single Stage Self Etching Primer (Part No. TSL5111) or Duplicolor Self Etching Primer, 12 oz, Aerosol (Part No. DAP1690) will help get the best adhesion of paint to he aluminum.

          • Q:

I am going to paint my new Monroe Reflex Shocks (they are grey and seem to rust quickly) They are clean and rust free at the current time so will I need to use the VHT Prep Spray prior to painting with the VHT Epoxy Paint?
Asked on 3/25/2014 by James from Grand Rapids, MI

            1 answer

            • CUSTOMER CARE

              A:

I'm happy to help, James! Yes, the VHT Prep spray is essential as it removes dirt, road tar, grease, wax and oil from any surface without leaving a film residue. Though the shocks are new it might have some oil surface or dirt in it. So this part is helpful for any type quality painting project.
