Comments about Valvoline VR1 Racing SAE50 Motor Oil:

I have an International Pickup Truck and Scout. Both have Borg Warner T-19 4 speed transmissions. I was told that conventional GL-5 gear oils would harm the Scyros in them due to the sulfur attacking yellow metals. After switching, my transmission shifts better and I feel my transfer case is a little quieter when I use this oil. Also, Advanced is also the cheapest.

Comments about Valvoline VR1 Racing SAE50 Motor Oil:

I agree with the other comments - thank heavens this is still available. Original 50 Weight Oil as recommended for Norton, Matchless, AJS, BSA and many other British motorcycles. If you use lighter oil (thinner) or multi-viscosity oils you will get wet-sumping, leaks under your crankcase and primary chain case full of oil if you don't use your motorcycle regularly. Not just for Harleys! Ride safe.

Comments about Valvoline VR1 Racing SAE50 Motor Oil:

Not sure why it is not recommended for motorcycles,
been running it for years in old bikes. Who else would buy 50 weight oil? Old daily beaters maybe? Racers, probably not, thin oil makes more power.
Anyway, glad they keep making this oil. It's cheaper than the motorcycle shop oils and easy to find on a Sunday afternoon at Advanced or other parts stores. On the old bikes I change the oil at 1000 miles or at least spring time and fall season. At this price it works for me and will remain my oil of choice.

Comments about Valvoline VR1 Racing SAE50 Motor Oil:

I think it's funny that under specifications it says "No" for motorcycle! I use only this oil in my 1975 Harley Sportster in either 50 or 60 weight (depending on season/temps)and as long as they continue to make it I will continue to use it. It is perect for air cooled engines; you can ignore the "No" remark in the product specs!

Is this the product for me?

                A:

Hi Moose, I'm happy to assist you! Yes, the Valvoline VR1 Racing Oils would be the proper type of oil to use in your 1968 Pontiac GTO. However, I would not recommend the use of the Straight SAE 50W. I recommend the use of our VR1 10W-30. The highest viscosity grade I recommend would be the 20W-50. The Straight SAE 50W would be to heavy for the engine and rob the engine of horsepower and fuel economy. The lighter viscosity grades will allow for better oil flow through out the engine, keep it cooler and allow an easier start up.

what is the difference between VR1 50W racing conventional motor oil & VR1 20/50W racing motor oil?

              • CUSTOMER CARE

                A:

Hi Gman, great question! In general Valvoline VR1 racing oil is a conventional, non-synthetic racing oil. Valvoline VR1 Racing Oil contains 75% higher zinc than SM motor oil with a balanced additive package designed to work in both racing and street-legal applications. This product will protect older style push-rod and flat tappet engines. Valvoline provides this product in both multi and mono viscosity grades: 20w50, straight 50, 10w30, straight 30, straight 40, and straight 60.
