            Good for Harley

Comments about Valvoline VR1 20W-50 Racing Conventional Motor Oil (1 Quart):

I use VR1 in my 1992 Harley Big Twin. I run 20-50 in the engine. Also when I rebuilt my clutch the plate manufacturer recommended non synthetic hi quality motor oil. VR1 fit the bill for the primary case. Very smooth shifting no slippage. Maintenance is very easy only needing one oil and also more economical.

I have been using this oil since 1995. In my 500" MoPar engine. I chose this oil because it has zinc in it, that helps reduce wear in the engine. My engine is totally clean inside even after 19 years. I use high performance WIX oil filters with it and a magnetic ring around the oil filter. It may be a bit pricey but I only use the car during the summer months and that is only one oil change. Even after 19 years it still has 550HP, and still has excellent acceleration when it is needed. I recommended this oil for anyone that needs the zinc protection

This oil works well in a Harley engine...NOT recommended for Tranny or Primary. I use Valvoline Synthetic Gear lube 75/90? in tranny and cheap 15/40 in primary.. Service Eng./Primary every 3000 mi. and tranny every 3 years. My o6 FLHT has over 220,000 miles. Primary side crank bearing failed @ 68k, rebuilt with Timkin bearing set up and cam gear drive....no problems since.

I'm happy to answer you, Carboss! Yes, the Valvoline VR1 20W-50 Conventional Racing Oil would be perfect for use in your Harley Davidson. You may use this product or Valvoline 4 Stroke Motor Cycle Oil 20W-50. Both products will work well in your motorcycle.

Hi Guru, good question! The Valvoline VR1 Racing Oil may be used in city street service driving and track applications. The elevated levels of zinc in this motor oil product can damage oxygen sensors on a catalytic converter for extended use. Valvoline does not set their own oil change standards for motor oil products.

This Valvoline Racing Conventional 20W-50 Motor Oil - part# VV211 is designed for automotive applications and cannot be used for motorcycles as the oil designed for motorcycles has a higher "shear tolerance"...(clings to spinning gears and keeps a coating on meshing gears). And has viscosity stabilizers, and additives to accept and disperse heat much more efficiently than automotive oil.

Valvoline VR1 Racing Oil contains 75% higher zinc than SM motor oil with a balanced additive package designed to work in both racing and street-legal applications. This product will protect older style push-rod and flat tappet engines. Valvoline uses an advanced zinc/phosphorus additive that keeps higher levels of phosphorus in the motor oil where it protects the engine instead of poisoning the catalytic converter.
