I did an easy trans flush....drained oil, replaced oil several times. between each refill, i ran the transmission to clean the trans and reintroduce dirty/diluted dirty oil into the pan until the oil in there looked like new oil. My car, a 04 avalon, is very smooth shifting now. This is some of the only stuff advanced carries that meets toyotas trans spec. This stuff smells awful though. You'll get some on you if you did what i did. Don't even think about wearing your cloths inside your house or the wife will kill you. Put a towel down in your vehicle as well for when you get in there to put the car in gear.

I would not ever use this product again, I think if I'd left it in my 2004 Impala it would have caused the transmission to go out, it did'nt shift firm and would hesitate and jerk when starting out sometimes. After 500 miles I drained it back out and replaced the filter again and put plain Castrol Dex/Merc fluid back in and the transmission went back to shifting properly and not hesitating after about 100 miles.

Save money! Works the same as the stuff they put in at the dealer for fraction of the price. I put this in for my Hyundai Sonata 2011 and no issues! They wanted @15 a bottle of tranny and you need atleast 4-5

Comments about Valvoline MaxLife Dexron/Mercon (ATF) Automatic Transmission Fluid (1 Gallon):

This is a great ATF for us Hyundai/Kia owners. I have a 2005 Hyundai Elantra GLS with 193K miles and as many of you know, Hyundai asks to ONLY use Hyundai Diamond SP III transmission fluid. As many know, this fluid is not cheap so I researched online to find another alternative to this fluid. I found many forums saying how great Valvoline MaxLife ATF is. Make sure you use this MaxLife Dexron III/Mercon Multi-vehicle ATF.

Anyways, I decided today to this job. First I drove the car and then let it rest for 45 min. Then I jacked it up, put in on jack stands, put a container that can collect at least 8 quarts, get a 24 mm socket, remove the bolt (be careful with you hand while removing it, it can spill all over your hand and splatter all over the place), and let all the ATF drip. After all the fluid has dripped, clean the magnetic plug with a rag and put it back in (replace the gasket if it's damaged). Now to know how much fluid you've collected, use an empty 5-quart empty motor oil container and carefully pour all the ATF in there (when I did it, about 4 3/4 quarts of ATF came out). Lower the car back to the floor, remove the Transmission dipstick and put a funnel in its place. SLOWLY pour the MaxLife ATF in the transmission (5 quarts came out, carefully pour 5 quarts back in). After pouring all the ATF, replace the dipstick and start your car. Let it idle for a 2-3 mins and then with your foot on the brake, shift to each gear (P > R > N > D > 3 > 2 > 1, then back to P) so the fluid can travel to all of the transmission's veins and clutches. Drive the car around for a few miles, then check the fluid. Put more fluid if needed.

So far I've driven the car with this fluid and it's great, a cheaper alternative to Hyundai's OEM ATF. Hope this has helped.

Comments about Valvoline MaxLife Dexron/Mercon (ATF) Automatic Transmission Fluid (1 Gallon):

If, like me, you are the owner of a Kia or Hyundai that is beyond its warranty period, you may have discovered that the SP-III specification for the transmission fluid in your car is pretty hard to find. You may also be somewhat leery of putting anything in it that says Dexron/Mercon on the front label.

I was in the same boat. I desperately needed to change the transmission fluid in my 2007 Kia Sedona, as it was having some hard shifts at lower speeds after a couple hours on the interstate. But I could not afford to part with a lot of money for OEM. But I also didn't want to take the risk of pouring random junk in it that was going to destroy it.

After scouring all the forums online, and reading the Valvoline website, I decided to take the leap. I did a partial change (5 quarts out of 6.5, the big jug plus a quart) with the Valvoline Maxlife ATF. I did this two days ago, and have driven it 700+ miles since. Shifting is back to the way it should be, even after long miles on the highway.

Word of advice to my Kia and Hyundai friends - when you pour this into your transmission (through the dipstick tube), do it SLOWLY. Pour a very little bit into your funnel and let it burp; lather, rinse, repeat. Do NOT fill your funnel halfway, thinking it will drain down slowly. What will happen is, air will erupt forcefully up the funnel and splatter all that fluid everywhere, making an awful mess. And as I and others have noted, this stuff smells worse than average.

But don't let that deter you - use the Maxlife. You'll be glad you did.

I am just a PHD student and purchased a 2007 Nissan Versa as used. The automatic transmission fluid need to be changed (dark brown color, nearly black) and my local store want to charge $109 for 5 quarts flush!

I like DIY and purchased this stuff. Although this 1 gallon bottle can change only half amount of the oil, the effect is obvious. The shifting is much smoother and it seems that the acceleration is much better.

Most important - it only cost me about $25! If you like DIY, just choose this!

I have a 2004 Volvo S80 2.9, which has a GM 4T65E transmission that originally took Dexron III. I performed a complete drain and fill of the system with this Valvoline Dexron VI fluid, along with a new transmission filter from Advance. I have 107k miles on the vehicle/transmission and this fluid has made it shift very smooth again. I was not having any major trouble with the transmission before but, shifting was rougher than I would have liked from a luxury car. I will use this fluid again next time I change the ATF, since I have no complaints.

Hi there Bill I will be happy to answer your question! This Valvoline Automatic Transmission Fluid does not show to be compatible with your 99 S-10 4-Cyl. For your truck it is recommended to use DEXRON VI(4) (Part No 06822) . This grade of ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) will mix fine with what is already in your truck after you do your transmission service with filter. For the basic service your transmission takes 5 quarts, for a total fill it will be 11.2 quarts.
