Dealer wanted [$] to exchange it (he said his part has a LifeTime warranty) This one comes with a lifetime warranty and with my truck needing this one exchange in 170,000 miles... how much of a risk is it that I'll need to replace it again?Anyway, was a quick job, took about 1 1/2 hours to do, good time to change the lower hose and serpentine belt too. Check youtube for videos on how to do the job.

Comments about ToughOne Water Pump - New:

This was a warranty replacement for a pump purchased in 2012 that went bad after 20,000 miles. The first was absolutely OEM style but didnt last. This warranty replacement gives me even less confidence. It is not the same specification. The inspection cover on the back is pressed in not screwed on and the gaskets are not the OEM Oring type. Also there's no weep hole. The first one they sold me had all those features. Plus the casting itself is very rough compared to the first. Seems they may have switched to a cheaper vendor, and it shows.

Comments about ToughOne Water Pump - New:

This pump was installed on my 2000 Sierra (5.3L) 2wks ago and so far no problems. The unit came with new gaskets and everything fit perfectly. I was able to reuse my old thermostat and now my cooling system is all good. Also, the thermostat that is compatible with this unit is the one that comes installed into its own housing assembly. Seems that GM may have installed various thermostats depending upon which engine you have. Nevertheless, this pump will mount perfectly to your GM truck but you may have to upgrade the thermostat.

Everything was easy until I was putting on the last clamp on the top water hose and the original clamp would not fit past the intake module, inlet looked to be pressed in and to far to the left, but remedy was to go and buy and after market hose clamp.

I bought this product 3 years ago as a replacement on my '02 Tahoe. It seized up today so I'll take it out this weekend and with receipt in hand see what limited lifetime warranty means. I think 3 years is reasonable on an after-market, high use item like a water pump. Probably got about 40K miles on it. I'd buy again as it is several hundred dollars cheaper than OEM and only took me about 1-2 hours to replace the first time....and I'm not a mechanic, just a frugal DIYer.

I noticed the remanufactured ones give a diameter, 1.88 or 2.05, does it matter with the new one?

This pump has a 2.05 diameter which is for the pre-2004 versions of the pump. So, this pump worked with the OE thermostat housing for my 2002 Suburban. This housing uses the O-ring that comes with the pump. The pump also comes with the thick paper gaskets that go between the pump and engine block. I used a thin coat of blue RTV on both sides of the paper gaskets.

The ToughOne or GMB New Water Pump - Part No. 130-7340 come with a bottom weep hole. To tell if a water pump is defective follow these steps: Check for shaft seal failure by carefully inspecting the water pump weep hole. When a water pump is new, some seepage is normal in the initial hours of operation as the seal seats. Other than that, any leakage that occurs is due to seal failure and the pump needs replacement. There may be tell tale trails of rust, calcium and coolant deposits on the water pump housing with the weep hole as the origin. Detect a worn water pump bearing by checking for side-to-side play at the shaft. There should be no perceptible play as you apply hand pressure to the shaft. Accelerated bearing wear is characterized by screeching or rumbling noises coming from the water pump housing. If any of these conditions exist, the bearing is worn out and the pump should be replaced. For any further assistance please feel free to call us at: 1-877-238-2623 or visit the nearest Advance Auto Parts store and one of our Parts Pros will gladly assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

Yes, it includes two paper gaskets for the pump to engine block and an O-ring and paper gasket for the thermostat housing (you just use one of the two). Also, use some RTV on both sides of the paper gasket.

                    • A:

The pump does contain paper-type gaskets where it mates up against the engine block and both an o-ring and a paper gasket for the thermostat housing. However, you only use one or the other at the housing per the included instructions.

Also, I think the other answer you received should have recommended replacement of the serpentine belt, not the timing belt.

It shouldn't leak when it is running or turned off. The leak could be coming from the gaskets or worn seals on the pump itself. Most people replace the pump and gaskets regardless of which case it is. The gaskets come with a new pump.

The vehicle dying out should not be caused by the water pump going out. Unfortunately we are unable to diagnose what is wrong with your vehicle without being able to be there with your vehicle. We highly recommend taking your vehicle to a reputable shop to have them take a look at it to determine the cause.
