I was somewhat reluctant to attempt this repair initially but when I saw that I could replace it entirely from the top (without rolling around under the vehicle), that I'd save $400 AND get a limited lifetime warranty (only 12 months from the dealer) I decided to give it a try. I allowed 4 hours for the project and completed in 1 hour and 20 min start to finish. Works out to about $200 per hour the way I figure it. Luckily I had all the tools necessary which consisted of metric end wrenches and sockets, 3 different extensions, universal and ratchet - that's it. If you have the tools and talent give it a try. Added bonus - NOT made in China!

Rebuilt starter was installed and worked for less than a week before failing to engage. I found that the solenoid connector block was loose and that twisting it allowed the internal connection to be made well enough to limp home.
The design and method of securing this connector block in the rebuilt is inferior to the OEM method. The cardboard tag warning against twisting this connector was read and followed. They need to caution people about this because the connection is apparently too fragile to survive normal installation stress. The old starter with 200,000 miles on it had this connector still intact and not turning. I would expect this to be a frequent cause of warranty claims on this model.

I am on my 3rd ToughOne starter in less than 6 months. Last time I had to replace the starter I had to replace the fly wheel because this starter ruined it. I thought that maybe it was because it was refurbished so i bought a brand new one and now im having the same problem. Do not buy this brand!

This product was brand new and did not work in my 1999 Toyota sienna le. It made loud grinding noises and almost damaged my flywheel irrepairably. Immediately after buying it I returned it. The manager at the store was so rude about it as well.

I ended up buying a oem remanufactured unit which worked well.

                  Comments about Worldwide Starter:

The starter was easy to install on my Highlander. While I don't normally do big engine repairs, the looming cost estimate was easily negated when the starter was purchased much less than the mechanic was charging, and the repair job was visible online via a video. With about 1 hour and 1 helper, I was able to get my car started after a few simple removals (battery, air intake, and some wires). The car starts perfectly every time, sounds better than the old one (which had stripped because of a missing bolt). Great product.

Good selection of parts...if the part is not on hand, it can typically be secured through their supply network in a short amount of time. Overall, quite happy. Will use Advance Autoparts again.

I used the starter in my 2000 lexus rx 300. My neighbor diagnosed the issue and I went online for an easy reservation and order. I went to the local store and the gentlemen got my part right away. I had my part with me for the core and more importantly to make sure it matched up. It appeared to be a match and turned out it was an exact fit and went in easy as pie. I would highly recommend.

I am trying to figure out how to remove the starter first before buying.

I managed to remove all the bolts and took starter out. I also removed the large wire cable. However, I had difficulty to remove the small wire attached to the solenoid part of the starter. The wire terminals seemed to be latched or clipped. Do you know how to remove this wire.

With respect to your inquiry on the Airtex Fuel Pump Module Assembly - Part No. E3506M, follow these steps to remove the starter on a 2003 Lexus ES300 V6: Remove battery, remove air cleaner inlet assembly, remove air cleaner assembly with hose, remove air cleaner bracket, remove air cleaner inlet No.1, remove starter assembly. While removing the starter assembly you will have to disconnect the starter connector, remove the nut and disconnect the lead wire from terminal 30 and remove the two bolts and starter. Once the 2 bolts are removed, wiggle the starter and pull back away from the transmission and the lock type smaller wires will come out clearly. Well this all depends on the skill level of whoever is removing or replacing the part. Some may have a harder time than others who have experience. I would recommend purchasing a Haynes repair manual specifically for your vehicle. This should be able to assist you further into detail on how to repair or replace specific parts.
