                      A:

I'd be happy to help you with that! A basic orifice tube will be fine. You can go with Part Number T38904 which is for severe temperatures [105+ degrees] and it will help lower the temperature on the low side of the refrigerant system to help with higher ambient temperature.

                      A:

Yes, with reference to your inquiry on the ToughOne Orifice Tube - part# T38623, there would be a size difference between a R12 and a R134a orifice tube. • Q:

What is the orifice diameter? My understanding is that the .072 tubes are for R12 and don't work efficiently with R134a, which needs a smaller orifice diameter due to the smaller molecular size of the R134a freon. This product claims R134a compatibility but doesn't state the orifice diameter in the specifications.

                      A:

The orifice size of this ToughOne Orifice Tube (Part# T38623) is 0.071-0.073 inch and it is compatible with R134a refrigerant only. Where does the orifice tube go in at in a 1994 Buick regal grand sport?

                      A:

In order to locate the orifice tube on your 1994 Buick regal Gran Sport, locate the high side A/C line on the passenger side of the engine compartment. There will be a small line called the liquid line. Follow it to the condenser located in front of the radiator. After removing the freon you can split the A/C coupling at the radiator. There are two lines split the one that goes back to the firewall. The orifice tube will be in the condenser end of the line. For further assistance, please feel free to call us at 1-877-238-2623 or visit your nearest Advance Auto Parts store and one of our representatives would be more than happy to assist you.

What exactly is an Orifice Tube, and why do I need to put a new one in when I convert R-12 to 134A in my 1992 Oldsmobile, Cutless Supreme?
Asked on 5/5/2012 by Scotty Too Hotty from Barnardsville, NC

                    • CUSTOMER CARE

                      A:

An orifice tube is a small tube that is used to process refrigerant through an evaporator core. It is found in refrigerators that still use freon as a method to keep freezers cold. Regardless, when switching from R12 to R134a you need to change the accumulator/dryer anyway because the desiccant used to absorb moisture in an R12 system isn't compatible with R134a. If you have the system open, you'll also want to replace the orifice tube.
