So far quiet!!

A/C compressor. So far it is quieter than the GM replacement compressor. The compressor that was on the vehicle was noisy from the day it was installed.

This compressor has one of the manifold fittings on the back recessed unlike the factory unit. It also does not come with a pressure switch. The pressure switch in my original unit would not come out so you may want to plan on buying a switch when you pick up the compressor. Finally, the most important part is Factory Air O-ring adapter kit 21000. If you have a 1993 R4 compressor like mine then the adapter is the only way to make it work. John at my local story (8425) was very helpful but there was no way to locate this part on the store computer.

This will be the second one I replace in my 1994 S10 Truck. They keep blowing out internal seals. When it works it works as it should but they haven't held up even a year. The foirst time i thought ok, it was a fluke but now having to repalce it again for a second time its aggravating, waste of money and time. If you can afford it buy another brand....

Chose this compressor instead of the used, which I would recommend paying alittle more to get a new one instead of taking a chance on a rebuilt one and also by reading the complaints on the comment section on the rebuilt one I didnt wanna take a chance.

Comments about ToughOne or Factory Air Air Conditioning Compressor with Clutch - New:

Good product for replacement. Went right in, until it was time to hook up hose assembly. Wrong high side gasket. High side bored 90 thousand deeper into compressor then original harrison R4 .. Need to go back to advance and try to get thicker gasket.... None available at parts store... Went to chevy dealer and found
Red and green gaskets from them.. Red one was correct for high side.. Original
Low side from compressor kit used..
If kit instructions said thicker gasket may be needed to get before starting project system would not have to open for more then a couple of hours instead of 2days.

Get other gaskets if replacing Harrison R4 compressor on 1993 chevy k1500
              Don't know about other years

The compressor was bought to replace the existing one on an S-10 truck that is being completely redone. I chose to go with a new compressor, rather than a reman. Just my preference. The new one works just fine without any issues. For my needs, this compressor worked out great.

Hi Road dog, glad to assist you! This air conditioning compressor carries a limited lifetime replacement warranty with related parts purchase. The lifetime warranty part can be refunded for cash/credit within the 90 time frame. After that time expires, it can only be exchanged for a new item. So the warranty is valid the life of the part as long as the customer owns the vehicle.

                • Q:

The installation instructions say to fill the compressor with the correct amount and type of oil. The instructions also say that the unit is prefilled with PAG oil. The manufacturers service guide says to drain the unit first then if under 2.5 oz then refill to 2.5 oz if over 2.5 then fill with the amount that was drained. But the Toughone instruction say not to drain. How do I know I'm not going to overfill with oil if I don't know how much is already in the compressor?

What type of oil is in the compressor? I want to switch to r12 from 134a. I'm replacing the drier, orifice, and condenser as well as flushing the hoses and evaporater. I read mineral oil is better with r-12 than ester. I'd like to use mineral oil with ICE32. Do I need to drain the compresser and add my own oil?
