Different sound than factory installed

Motor has a slight whirring sound when it runs. Original factory motor did not. It's not really too annoying but just different is the best description I can think of. Problem with uninstall of old one and installation new one was the fact that there is one nut head all the way up in back of the unit holding on the plastic protective cover next to the firewall. To get at it, FIRST be left handed and thin with small hands. Then try every conceivable combination of socket wrench, nutdriver, extension, wobbler, etc to try to get at it. This particular nut head is way up in behind the blower motor cover and was tilted away from the firewall at an angle just enough that you could not get a tool on it and have enough leverage to loosen it. As a last resort we had to move the carpeting, and tear away some of the padding so a hand could get close enough to try to get on a socket on that nut head. Still with great difficulty. There is just no room and you have to feel for it cause you can not see where it is. Other than that the rest of the uninstall and install went smoothly and easily. There always seems to be one piece that gives a problem. One final thought, we got a 15% discount by ordering the part online and picking it up at the store rather than just going into the store to buy it outright.

If you are buying this part for a Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth vehicle - open the box and check the electrical connector carefully. The part photo shown on this web site as of 8/14/2010 shows the WRONG gender connector and green/yellow wiring. The WRONG connector is the one already on the vehicle harness - it has a flush face with two entry slots for flat blade contacts.
The correct connector face is a cavity with two flat blade contacts set deep inside.
Also - for the particular sample this reviewer purchased the wiring was too short to reach even if it had been the correct connector. The segment between the motor and the grommet was too short to reach the housing wall AND the sleeved segment was too short to reach from the groomet to the vehicle connector even if it had been the correct connector.
If for some reason you absolutely must use this part and cannot get one that is wired correctly you will have to rework it. You will need barrel crimp connectors and a stripping/crimping tool. On the old motor being replaced - remove the two screws holding the motor to the frame. Untwist the blue and black wires to allow the motor to back out of the frame. Cut the wires close to the motor. Do not disassemble the new motor. Cut the wiring between the motor and the gromet close to the grommet. Splice the wiring (black to green and yellow to blue) using barrel crimp connectors. Plug into vehicle harvess and holding fan turn it on low briefly to check that it rotates in the correct direction. If incorrect, cut, swap, and re-splice.

I put this product on a 2005 Dodge Caravan. This is a great product. It works as advertised. It is a good factory replacement. However, there are five screws that must be removed to get the housing off before you can access the motor. The housing is held on with five screws. Screws one through four are simple, but there is a fifth screw in the back between the firewall and the housing, it is an absolute beast to get to. You will have to remove carpet and installation from the floorboard in order to get to it, not that big of a deal, but keep this in mind. Even then, the screw is an absolute nightmare. You can touch it, you can almost see it , but you're not going to get a normal 8 mm socket on it. I would recommend purchasing a flexible screwdriver extension, or some sort of NASA invented adapter. I can't even tell you how I finally got it on and off. I just kept using every combination of adapters and extension arms that I had before I finally was able to get it, and it was still a beast. There are a couple of online videos that show people talking about this infamous fifth screw. They aren't kidding. They share the same sentiments that I have shared with you. It's not impossible, but it definitely will make you cuss. Don't shy away from this project because of that screw, but make sure you do your homework beforehand and know what you're getting yourself into and how you are going to have to access it. Also very important, when you put the housing back on , when finishing the job, make sure that you put the recirculation shield all the way to the right(non-recirculate/outside air.) This is the factory default position, and if you don't have it all the way to the right, your recirculate on your air conditioner will not work. I will include a video by someone other than myself, that goes through a pretty good job of explaining this. It is vital that you watch videos on what I have highlighted above before you attempt this job. I will also include a picture of these housing screws from the Haynes manual, but even the Haynes manual says "not pictured" for the fourth and fifth screw. You know it's bad when Haynes can't even show you a picture of it. The Haynes manual has them listed as #1 mounting fasteners.

    Direct fit for 01-07, requires connector mods for 96-2000

    I've replaced four of these blower motors in the '01-07 vans now. First, they are direct fit for the '01-'07 vans; the '96-2000 vans require connector modifications for this blower to fit. Just be aware of that. Second, the one screw in the back can be felt by hand but very hard to see. As has been said, remove the floor mat, pull back the carpet, and don't be afraid to remove a bit of the insulation up there so you can get to it. When you reinstall the bottom of the housing, be sure to take pliers and pull the fresh air / recirc door DOWN to fully seat it into the bottom housing. The end must stick out, not be flush. There are three grabber fingers which must fit into a groove on that door. Take a look and you'll see what I mean. NOW... if your van is a 2001-2002, Chrysler used thicker padding in those vans, and it makes it a little tougher to see where that bolt is. ALSO on the 2001-2002s; once I had removed every screw I needed to, that housing STILL wouldn't come down and I ended up just yanking down and breaking it. It broke on the cabin air intake grid so not a big deal. I just replaced the motor, lined up the bottom and put it back into place, put all the screws in, and everything's fine. If somebody figures out where that sneaky extra bolt is on the 2001-2002s, post it up. The bottom of the blower housing was also different than the '03-04s I worked on.

    Wrong side of correct connector. Original out of '98 Plymouth G Voyager has female, the replacement has male. So, save the old to replace the new. Wiring is lighter weight than original. Besides the connector issue, relatively easy install. Pulling back the the carpet from the firewall gives just enough extra working room to make it very simple.

              Difficult to install coments is not because of the part itself but in the location. The screw closest to the floorboard/firewall took me longer to remove and put back in then the entire rest of the screw removal and part replacement.
              Need a flexible shaft to attach to the ratchet or screw driver access the last screw.
              4 min YouTube video helped.

                I have a 2003 T&C 6 cyl 3.8 the front air and heat does not work would this be the blower for the front? I have changed the blower resistor and checked the Blower Relay and nothing still. The blower has not worked in weeks and today my battery died and when I got the battery jumbed it started working but as soon as I turned off my van it quit again and now comes on and off at random times and when it is on it will roast you out of the van.                   IF your T&C has automatic temperature control (you set the temperature as a number) then it doesn't have a resistor block, it has a power module located just behind the glove box on the HVAC shell.
                  If your T&C has the traditional warmer-cooler sliders and a 4 speed switch then it has a resistor block also located just behind the glove box on the HVAC shell. If your vehicle were an earlier model, the resistor block would be on the other side of the firewall from the glove box, in the engine compartment.

                  The front and rear blowers on the 2004 Pacifica are completely different. The front blower is a single shaft and wheel. The rear is a double shaft motor spinning two wheels. The Chrysler service manual says that the assembly is balanced as a set, and therefore the OEM replaces the motor and wheel together instead of replacing just the motor or a wheel.
