I installed this on a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee....

1)I welded this to a piece of extension pipe. I removed a layer of metal (whether from the galvinization of aluminization) before i welded it and it welded quite nicely.
    2) I had to "flare" one end with a tail pipe expander and it worked out quite nicely. The inlet/outlet is not some cheap, thin metal so it did require some effort to do this.
    3) The dimensions were exact which made installation a cinch.
    4) When i start the truck it has a nice grumble to its idle. sounds like a dodge.
    5) when i accelerate slowly you do not hear it as much because it is in a higher gear.
    6) when i punch the gas you hear a nice throaty growl.

Used on 99 chevy tahoe 5.7 vortec.Only installed a short time. They seem to be well made, but much more quiet than I had expected. At idle that are minivan quiet. Under quick throttle they sound a little grumble in a good way. And they cackle nice when u back off the throttle quickly. I personally would prefer a more aggressive sound. Have not had them long enough to tell u anymore.

        Comments about Thrush Turbo Muffler:

I installed this muffler as a replacement on my 99 Jeep Cherokee after my factory one fell of due to rust. It was almost a perfect fit. I only needed to add about 4" of pipe to make it fit like the factory one. It added a very nice tone to the exhaust. It has a nice deep idle and isn't buzzy or overly loud while going through the rpms. So far there has been no droning. There has been no noticeable power increase with this muffler, but that's not why I purchased it. It is an excellent replacement part that adds a pleasant noise to the vehicle. One thing to remember is this is not a factory replacement, you will need to modify your exhaust to make it fit. You could get away with using exhaust clamps, but there is very little room on either end. There is only about 2.5-3 inches of pipe at either end. Welding it in would be the ideal method of installation.

          Comments about Thrush Turbo Muffler:

I installed this on a 2001 Mercury Sable. I was concerned that it might be too loud. It is only slightly louder than the OEM it replaced. Most people would not notice the difference in the sound. If you are looking for something that will give your car an obvious increase in sound over an OEM muffler, I think Thrush has better choices. If you are looking for a low cost muffler that installs easily and will not make your car embarrassingly loud, this is a great choice.

On my Sable it fit well in the space available for the OEM muffler. You will need about a five inch extension due to this muffler being smaller than the OEM. I liked the ligher weight of the Turbo Thrush than the OEM as it was easier to handle during installation.

The engine seems to idle smoother than it did with the OEM muffler. I suspect that the Thrush may be freer flowing.

I bought this thrush turbo muffler for my 1989 Jeep Cherokee Limited 4x4 with the Renix 4.0L straight six engine. The exhaust was junk so I decided to make a new one. I cut the exhaust out and used it with open headers for 2 weeks. It was VERY loud and illegal so I decided to get a muffler. This was the cheapest muffler in the store so I bought it and installed it. It is VERY quiet, I personally don't like how quiet it is but I just got used to the amazing open headers sound. However its much better than stock and added power and torque, sounds nice but the jeep drives better than it ever has while i owned it.

              Comments about Thrush Turbo Muffler:

I have now installed two of these onto Jeep Cherokees with the 4.0 i6 in the "reverse" setup (centered inlet and offset outlet) and both times it was in stock at my local Advance store. The first was a 2000 model Jeep Cherokee and it was installed post catalytic converter with a turn-down, installed in this manner it had a nice grumble at lower rpm's but got raspy at higher rpm's; this setup also led to a pretty bad drone inside the vehicle at highway speeds (70-75mph at around 2500 rpm's) The second one was installed into a 2001 model Jeep Cherokee after a high-flow catalytic converter with a full tailpipe to replace the rusted out stock system that was there. This one hasn't yet been completely broken in (only about a hundred miles on the setup) but so far so good. With the full tailpipe the muffler has a slight grumble at idle and sounds good and grumbles when revving up the engine but it is not overly loud, and is not too loud from the interior of the vehicle, nor does it lead to a droning at highway speeds (once again 70-75mph at around 2500 rpm's) The sound in and of its self is only slightly louder than a stock setup but when paired with a high flowing catalytic converter it gives a decent seat-of-the-pants dyno increase.

It took me about 2 hours total from hack sawing the old stuff out to starting it up to hear what it sounded like.

The Thrush Turbo Muffler (Part No. 17713) is something better than your slow-flowing original equipment muffler. Backpressure is decreased 30 percent over stock, with a deep performance tone under acceleration that quiets down while cruising. For easy installation, the Turbos are reversible, and the inlet/outlet can be expanded to fit your stock pipes.
