I went with this brand name cap as a preventive measure item on my van since the old cap had over 200,000 miles on it. This cap would not seal and the system would not build pressure. I returned it and but the old cap back on. It has been 20,000 miles and the old cap is still working fine. That's what I get for doing preventive maintenance huh?

        Comments about Stant Radiator Cap:

This was my first ever online parts order of any kind. It was such a great experience and such a great deal, I am unlikely to purchase items anywhere else in the future. The special online discount that was applied to this order allowed me to no only change the radiator but also the water pump and gasket, thermostat and gasket, and the top and bottom hoses. The comments that so many others had left on this site made me much more confident when making such a purchase. Price was exactly what I expected, delivery was exactly what was expected, and the parts quality was exactly what was expected. I have to give it to my local stores. They were more then willing to offer all of the advice and assistance that I needed during my DIY project.

                Comments about Stant Radiator Cap:

Good product well designed, durable and OEM equivalent. Previous cap was equipped with a pressure relief lever and that cap failed within 6 months. Stay away from any product that has a pressure relief lever even if it was made by Stant.

I have a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee.. Just because it is cheap and made in Mexico, doesn't mean that it isn't a great little radiator cap. I have had it on for a couple days no leaks and working like it is suppose to.

Hi JOE FARMER, great question! Yes, if the 13lb radiator cap does not lock up tight, you can put a high pressure cap on.

Yes. A bad cap can cause the engine to overheat if it loses its ability to hold pressure in the cooling system. You can get a radiator cap tester to check it.

                          • A:

You could use a pressure tester to check it but it's so inexpensive you could just replace it with the recommended pressure.

As to your question, if it is not holding the correct pressure the boiling point of the coolant could be too low which *MAY* lead to overheating, especially if it is hot and you're running the AC. If for some reason it doesn't relase at the right pressure (I haven' seen it so this is hypothetical) I imagine the system could overpressure. Most likely it would break a seam on the radiator or damage the seal on the water pump.
