Used this as a replacement filter on my cold-air intake that I fabbed myself, saved me alot of money compared to other filters available. Keeping an extra filter on hand saves alot of down-time, when you clean and re-oil one you have one to use, instead of waiting for the one being cleaned to dry. Heck, for the price, some people use them till they get dirty and just throw them away.

Comments about Spectre Air Filter 6.7 in Tall:

Engines, Gas or Diesel are nothing more than an "Air Pump"…increasing the efficiently of air intake and exit…increases efficiency and power aka "Go Faster…Burn Less Fuel"…

Knowing this and considering that the "Stock Air Box" is extremely restrictive, thus wanting to install a less restrictive Filtration System with-out disturbing the ECU…keeping the "Check Engine" light "Off" was a must…

Side Bar…The 1989 Mitsubishi 2.4 16 valve SOHC, 4G64 is computer controlled, the Air Flow Sensor is a 3-in one sensor which monitors the intake air's "Flow", "Temperature" and "Barometric Pressure"…The housing of the MAS has a Honeycomb inserts (4, pieces 2 rectangle & 2 semicircular) which straightens the flow through the MAS increasing the accuracy of the sensor…

The creative minds at Spectre Performance did their "Homework" and designed the MAS Adapter Part # 81403 which allows for the removal of the Stock Air Box and replacing it with a High Flow Cone Filter. For the nominal fee of $97.47 (price includes 2- High Flow Cone Filter the hardware to install and support the filters and the recharge kit…my Eclipse GSS (Grand Sport Spyder) has a noticeable increase in throttle response, more bottom end Torque and averages 31 MPG's at speeds over 70 MPH which is an increase of 7 MPG's. The increase in the MPG's has saved approximately $160.00 over the past 6 months…Not a ton of cash but it paid for itself and the care is more responsive…Just think I got to fiddle with it...spent some cash and saved more by doing so…Not bad for a 2.4 non-performance engine attached to a "Limp-wristed " 4-speed automatic…

The Best Part is all the parts are available at your Local Advanced Auto Parts Store…

P.S. Purchased 2 filters so that the car could be used while the other filter drys…In Humid NY it could take a day or two…You will need to fabricate a bracing system to keep the filter stationary…removing the box removes one anchor point…

                      A:

Hi Gene, glad to help you! The thing to remember about changing an air filter is that the frequency with which they need to be changed depends primarily on the vehicle's driving conditions and then on the filter itself. Climate and road conditions both play a huge part in determining the lifespan of an air filter. Normally, the air filters are recommended to change between 30000 miles and 60,000 miles. However, it is always recommended to refer the vehicle owner's manual for the exact maintenance schedule for better and safer results.

                      A:

Most High-Flow Air Filters come pre-oiled, but when its time to clean them, you'll need both the cleaner and the oil. Take your filter out. Shake it to loosen the dirt: Tap the filter gently on a hard surface to dislodge loose dirt. Tap the head of a filter. Tap a panel filter dirt side down. Do not tap any filter on its edges. Remember to tap gently. Use a soft brush and brush off as much dirt as you can: Gently brush the dirt side of filter with a soft bristle brush. Spray Air Filter Cleaner liberally onto the entire element. Let the Cleaner soak into the filter media for 10 minutes. After the Cleaner soaks for 10 minutes, rinse the filter with low pressure water. Always flush opposite the direction of air flow ie: from the clean side to the dirty side. This removes the dirt and does not drive it further into the filter media. After rinsing, shake off the excess water and let the element dry at room or outside air temperature. Do not use compressed air because it will damage the filter media. Do not use heat from any source to dry a your filter. Heat will shrink the filter media and may damage the rubber base, top or end caps. Once the filter is dry, apply the oil... SPRAY OILING: Spray Air Filter Oil from a distance of about 10 inches onto a group of pleats. Spray each group of pleats only once. Spray oil onto the filter media such it becomes reddish in color. Let the filter sit for 10 minutes then respray any areas that are still white. SQUEEZE BOTTLE OR TUBE OILING: Squeeze Air Filter Oil onto each pleat. Let the filter sit for 20 minutes as the oil "wicks" into the surrounding filter media. Apply more Filter Oil to areas that are still white. OILING NOTE: Never put a your filter in service without oiling it. The filter will not function properly without being oiled. Air Filter Oil is a unique blend of mineral and organic oil base stocks and special polymers that form a very efficient "tack barrier". Red dye is added to show areas of oil application. Eventually, the dye fades but the oil remains to filter the air. Do not use automatic transmission fluid, any kind of motor oil or diesel fuel to oil a you air filter. Do not use "WD-40", "LPS" or any other type of light-weight spray lubricants to oil your air filter. Any of those products will damage the filter or degrade its filtering ability. A filter used on an engine that is regularly operated in a fine dust environment will require frequent re-oiling of the filters clean side in between cleanings. Put the filter back on your car. Re-install your Air Filter with care.
