Comments about Spectra Premium Distributor:
I purchased a Richporter Technology Ltd VW10 Distributor/Ignition coil package for my 1600 air cool powered Benz Roadster Replicar. I was rather impressed. It worked great right out of the box. Converting it to electronic ignition, while restoring a vacuum advance instead of the mechanical advance 009 "Dizzy" that was in it. I was rather pleased with the product. Until, it came time to replace the cap and rotor that is. SURPRISE! There is no replacement cap and rotor for it. Zero, Zip, Ziltch. Several parts stores will sell you the Distributor, but they have no parts listing for a replacement cap and rotor.
So I contact the manufacture. The Richporter Technology Warranty Coordinator, who tells me he can get me one, just needs the numbers off the side of the Distributor. So, I have to pull it back out and guess what, no numbers anywhere on it. I emailed him back informing him of that, but he never replied again.
So I contact Technical Support at Spectra Premium which apparently owns Richporter Technology. In a live chat session, ask How do I go about getting a cap and rotor for my VW10 distributor? to which he replies "we do not carry the part separately, only complete assembly" "We do not have any part number for the VW10 cap or rotor." "maybe a specialized retailer can help on that matter." so i inquire well if your the manufacture, then where do you think a specialized retailer is supposed to get the cap if not from the manufacture? He then confused me by stating "there is many other manufacturer who do those distributor you may want to do a research on the web to see if they are listed for the parts that you are looking for cause we are not" not sure I was reading that right I inquire: many other manufactures other than RPT that do those distributors?
His answer to the one and only real question I asks? The sum of all his support? "thank you and you have a great day!

So there you have it folks, the manufacture (whomever that really was) put out a product with no thought towards it needing maintenance. And they apparently don't care that they failed to make that possible. I guess they manufacture a disposable Distributor/Ignition Coil Package. They just don't tell you that until you need a tune up.

A:No Morgan, This Richporter Distributor - Part No. VW10 Does NOT have the replacement cap and rotor and it can NOT be purchased separately. Did you bother checking the A.A.P. system for a part number before answering that question? Obviously not or you'd have found that you have no listing for a replacement cap or rotor for the VW10. You guys sell the distributor but can't get the customer a replacement cap and rotor when the one that comes with it wears out. Apparently the manufacture figures you can just replace the entire distributor if the cap or rotor wears out.
Q:Autozone carries the same distributor for only 126.99 why is this so much.
