Comments about Russell Brake Proportioning Valve:

This is an adjustable brake bias valve. It goes inline with your rear brakes. The other reviewers probably thought it was a replacement combination valve for front and rears but it is not. It will work fine if you want to adjust your rear brake pressure. Not recommended for novices.
P.S.Google the part number. First link showed a pic.

Comments about Russell Brake Proportioning Valve:

I researched this item, with my vehicle info, and what I got was this...A PAPERWEIGHT! Yes, I can return it for a refund, but, I waited 8 days to get this "Exact Fit" part. Waisted time and money!!! There is NO picture to compare to, and the store comes up with the same item, what the duces??? The sad thing is, other auto websites bring up the same item number!!! Plain & simple, if you can't provide a picture of the item that I am looking to buy, DON'T HAVE IT ON YOUR SITE! I will not be recommending this part, as it does NOT fit what it is "supposed" to be an "EXACT FIT" for.

Comments about Russell Brake Proportioning Valve:

This thing was sold to me as a brake proportionating valve and after waiting a week I got this thing that does not look like anything to do with brakes. A week wasted. You need an illustration on your website.

          • CUSTOMER CARE

            A:

With reference to your inquiry on the Russell Brake Proportioning Valve - Part No. 654000, the proportioning valve reduces the pressure to the rear brakes. Regardless of what type of brakes a car has, the rear brakes require less force than the front brakes. If equal braking force were applied at all four wheels during a stop, the rear wheels would lock up before the front wheels. The proportioning valve only lets a certain portion of the pressure through to the rear wheels so that the front wheels apply more braking force. If the proportioning valve were set to 70 percent and the brake pressure were 1,000 pounds per square inch (psi) for the front brakes, the rear brakes would get 700 psi. How do you reset this valve ?

          • CUSTOMER CARE

            A:

Locate the brake proportioning valve near the rear brake line. It will have one or two buttons located on it. The reset button usually has a rubber cap on it. It is an "L"-shaped metal valve. Push the reset button located on the valve with your fingers, which will reset it so the valve is working properly again. Inspect the brake pressure. If the pressure is restored to the brake line and your brakes seem to be working properly again, then the reset button worked. If the proportioning valve needs to be reset, brake fluid will not be getting through to the brakes. For any further assistance, please visit your nearest Advance Auto store or call us directly at 1-877-ADVANCE (238-2623) and one of our representatives there would be more than happy to assist you.
