over all the filter is of good quality for the price, but I stopped using this gold filter for one reason, On some of the filters, I found the coating grit sometimes laying on the seal area of the filter. I would not want the coating grit get into my engine oil. purolator needs only to coat half the filter casing and better protect the open end of the filter with a plastic wrap to keep any loose grit that may rub off during process and packaging from getting on the exposed open end and seal area. If Purolator would make these minor process changes, I would give this gold filter a five star rating, start buying it again and recommend it. If you decide to purchase this filter just take the precaution to open the box and inspect the seal area for any grit,(tiny particles) if you see none it should be ok.

Comments about Purolator PureONE Oil Filter:

Along with quality oils and additives is the importance of a good quality oil filter and the Purolator PureOne meets these qualifications with a well made steel cased 99.9% contaminate cleaning ability which is one of the best at a reasonable price. Really - what else can you ask for. I say it all the time, your engine will last longer if you do the maintenance regularly and with good quality parts - it pays off in the end.

I agree with the review that says the grit from the textured coating gets everywhere. that is my only gripe but if you rub the seal with a little motor oil it'll wipe away any grit. but the textured coating is very helpful, other filters without it are a little more of a hassle to remove.

I use this filter on a mazda protégé, which threads and seals perfectly. it allows roughly 20% more filter material than the standard size filter. other than buying wholesale from a dealer, this is the best deal on a quality filter available at most retail locations.

I tried to tighten it more, but it is tight. What should I do? I rechecked to make sure it is the right one for the auto, I took it off a little till more oil started pouring out and put it back on and it still drips.
