Check Vehicle Fit

Dirt and even rust can enter the fuel stream at any point along the long journey from refinery to your vehicle’s fuel tank. So, your fuel filter becomes the final line of defense against damaging contaminants getting into your vehicle. Clean fuel, free from dirt particles and rust, is essential for the smooth and efficient operation of your vehicle. A tiny grain of dirt can clog injectors, leading to erratic performance and poor gas mileage. Clean fuel increases gas mileage and improves engine performance - and with the fluctuating cost of gas these days, that’s really important!

Product Features:
  • Defense against damaging contaminants
  • Helps increase gas mileage
  • Improves engine performance

Direct fit, cheap and high quality

remove the old filter, snap the new one in to the retainer, clamp the lines on and you're done, much easier installation than expected. no issues at all.

Installation of the filter, if you have the right clips, is easy ( relieve fuel pressure first and have a container to dump the gas into, there is a lot in the filter ). However, this filter, and a WIX 33097 filter I bought at another auto parts store, both came with the wrong clips ( too wide ). I figured this out AFTER I broke the clips getting them out ( easy to break ).
If you only have one car, I suggest that you buy the filter and also buy a pack of the Dorman 800-023 clips, which Advance has. If the clips with the filter work, then great, return the clips later. If not, use the Dorman clips ( I used the smaller ones, and I have a 2004 Taurus SES, engine code U.
Of course if you have two cars on hand, then get the clips out and take them to the store with you to compare. So, if you get the clips beforehand, yes I would recommend this.

non-existant

Comments about Purolator Fuel Filter:

it doesn't do any good to call the store before driving 40 minutes from a rural area. The computer showed one in stock but after waiting in the store for 15 minutes while some so called workers fumbled looking for it. They came to the scientific conclusion that they don't have one and it was much to difficult to check for the physical item when I called. I wonder if the competition is more competent.

broke a clip on old one and when I got ready to install new filter, I found out the clips were not compatiable, so I had to file some of the plastic off inorder to make it work. I would not reccommend doing this as I now have to worry about wether the clip will come loose and I have a problem!

I was lucky enough to be at my father-in-laws garage & him being a jack of all trades was able to mic the plastic clip & grind it down to fit , it is loose but we made it work , I was also given the wrong oil filter with a special I bought , I was lucky enough to have had an extra one that was a different brand on hand or I would have been screwed on a SUNDAY !!!

Would a clogged filter cause eratic shifting and do I need a special removal tool to get spring couplings off the fuel line? I certainly do not want to damage retainer clips or the garter spring couplings. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

                    A:

Symptoms of a Clogged Fuel Filter: No-Start Condition: If a fuel filter is totally blocked or clogged to the point of blocking fuel flow to a vehicle's engine, the vehicle will not start. Fuel combined with air is what is ignited inside a vehicle's engine to get it started. Hard-Start Condition: A partially blocked or clogged fuel filter will often result in a vehicle that is hard to start. Adequate fuel flow to a vehicle's engine is needed to produce engine starting. A reduced or restricted fuel flow to a vehicle's engine will hinder normal starting. Frequent Engine Stalling: For a vehicle's engine to run efficiently and adequately, a constant flow of fuel needs to reach the engine. Any disruption of this fuel flow, which is what happens when a fuel filter is clogged, can cause an engine to frequently stall. Engine Hesitation: Engine hesitation is a common symptom of a clogged fuel filter. By causing an abnormal fuel flow to a vehicle's engine, a condition that results in abnormal engine combustion and reduced engine power, a clogged fuel filter can cause an engine to hesitate or stumble during acceleration. Erratic Engine Performance: A clogged fuel filter often results in erratic engine performance by causing an abnormal or alternating pattern of fuel flow into a vehicle's engine. Under heavy acceleration or at high engine speeds, fuel pressure may be sufficient to allow adequate fuel flow past a partially clogged filter, which results inadequate engine performance. When engine speed is reduced, fuel flow may be restricted to the point of causing reduced engine power and performance.
