This filter definitely improved the airflow in the passenger compartment and (according to the owner of the car) made the interior of the car smell better. The blower motor seems to be working better and more efficiently. The air conditioner seems to be blowing colder and drier. The defroster seems to be clearing the windshield more quickly, especially when the windshield is extremely misted over or frosted. All in all, the owner of the car would recommend this cabin air filter.

I was looking up air filters for my 2001 Toyota Echo and stumbled upon this. I thought for sure after owning my car for 11+ years I figured my cabin filter would certainly need to be changed. I thought I had noticed a decrease in force of my air flow. Lo and behold it seems Toyota never even installed it. When I opened the area it's housed in there was no filter. So I've been un-filtered for all these years anyhow. After putting in this one, I'm about to remove it. The main reason I thought it would be good to buy a new one is I thought the force of my air had deteriorated. Well, going from an unfiltered to a filtered cabin substantially cut down on the force of my air. I'd rather go back to unfiltered since I survived for 11 years without one, and have my full force of air back. Good thing this only cost me about 10 bucks.

Comments about Purolator Cabin Air Filter:

I can wash these cabin filters several times a year and they hold up. The plastic frame keeps them from collapsing. They eventually start to pill and my car collects little leaves, but everything shakes out pretty well. After about eighteen (18) to twenty-four (24) months they begin to pill so badly I have to replace them.

                          A:

The cabin air filter on your Scion XB should be located behind your golve box. You will need to remove the glove box and it is in a white tray. Now it will either be an open filter or an boxed filter (if it is a boxed filter than look for a plasticy box with like 2 tubes coming of it,one at the front which leads to the grille(front of the car for air supply) and the other one leading in to the engine. After locating the filter just loosen the clip that is around the filter and the pipe it is connected, and simply re-attach the new one, if it is an enclosed filter, just find the screws that hold the cover in place, remove them and take off the cover to reveal the filter and then just proceed with the same procedure.

                        • A:

Yes you have to change the cabin filter at least after a winter season.
Winter has snow rain in summer weather which is moisturized in your car at all time.

If you don't change your filter after a season your cabin filter possibly has lots of bacteria and mold cause of bad smell in your car and gives you a sickness.

Worse case you have to bring your car to dealer get to clean entire A/C system (Evaporator).

To reach to evaporator you have to open entire front panel.
I believe Toyota has easy maintenance which is you can do it your self.
If you need more detail for clean evaporator and entire A/C system just go to google.com for find a solutions.

That will cost near $500 and takes more than 5hr.
