What is the difference between brake pads & brake shoes? Do I need to purchase both? I have a 2002 Chevy Tahoe 2wd 4.8l V8. I want to replace the pads on ball four wheels.
Asked on 9/3/2013 by Delvis from Joliet, IL.

          A:

Brake pads are for disc brakes. Brake pads attach to the brake calipers. They clamp down on to the rotor to provide stopping power. Brake shoes are for drum brakes. Brake shoes expand to apply pressure to the inside edge of the brake drum to apply stopping power. You would need to buy ProAct Ultra Premium Ceramic Brake Pads (4-Pad Set) - part# ACT785 for front and ProAct Ultra Premium Ceramic Brake pad - part# ACT792 for rear. Both are an exact fit for your 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe.
