For 1999 Nissan Sentra, separate source says: "This ATF filter is not replaceable during normal maintenance. Replacement of this filter requires removal and dis-assembly of the transmission."
        Is that true?

You don't have to remove your transmission. Just drain it, take the trans pan off, replace filter, put trans pan back on, fill it up, and it's ready to roll.

          A:

It is not a regularly maintenace part like when you do your oil changes tune ups and so forth. You have to pull apart the transmission to replace this filter. It takes time and quite a effort its not an easy task to remove the transmission.
