Tool was defective

The hole for 3/16" tubing in the flaring bar was machined on an angle and made it impossible to produce good flare. Disgusted, I returned it and found an alternative.

Comments about Powerbuilt Tools Double Flaring Tool Set (9 Piece):

Don't waste your time/money on kits like this one sold here, at other autoparts stores, and at that "harbor" place.

Look online for the Eastwood 31244 kit. Made specifically for 3/16" brake lines, and very compact so it can be used directly in the vehicle.

You won't be disappointed.

Comments about Powerbuilt Tools Double Flaring Tool Set (9 Piece):

This tool is total garbage. Despite perfect prep of the line (deburred, chamfered 45 degrees, lubed) it is impossible to get a flare on the 3/16 line using this tool. There is way too much wobble in the head of the press and die to get it to press straight. Total garbage.

Comments about Powerbuilt Tools Double Flaring Tool Set (9 Piece):

I rented this tool to make one 6 inch repair. I need double flares and make them before with a different tool with no problems. This one will make one nice one, then the next will be a surprise. Usually a bad flare. Am disgusted with what should not of taken no more than s short time to fix. The hinged end of the tubing holder broke and I had to put in a screw and nut to make it useable again, but wasted my time. The flares come out rough and uneven. Better described, horrible. Just glad this is just a loaner, although it just wasted my time. I'm going to by a quality tool. Stay away from this one unless you collect scrap metal.

Don't waste your time with this. I had the hardest time getting a decent flare and then after making 3 brake lines, the threads wore out.. Very frustrating to use.

Comments about Powerbuilt Tools Double Flaring Tool Set (9 Piece):

This flare tool is total junk. Only good thing is this is available as a loaner tool.
The york (The part where thread bolt bolts onto) is not centered. Also thread was in slight angle. Combination this these two problem causes bubble flare adapter to go down in angle resulting in uneven bubble flare and off center.
You can get a good enough flare if you keep moving adapter around to keep it as flat as possible, but too much of a hassle.
Once bubble flare is made correctly, then making double flare is very easy. Just have to remove adapter and tighten down.

But the fact bubble flare has to be made before making double flare, and makding bubble flare with this tool is very hard, makes this kit a junk.

Carrying case was about only good part in this kit.

I didn't really expect much but I only got one good flare out of the first one before the adapter broke. Returned it new one the yoke was bent out and I had to hammer it just so it would hook on both sides.

Both didn't make straight flares, it was a pain to use, and both 3/16 adapters ended up breaking completely in the pipe.

Used on steel and copper pipe, it is a cheap piece of junk and ultimately you get what you pay for.

Ended up costing me money because all the fittings leaked the store only had two sets in stock, they ruined some of the pipe I bought and I had to take it to a shop.
