Screw is too long, worked otherwise.

Comments about Powerbuilt Tools Coil Spring Compressor Kit (5 Piece):

I liked the 1/2" square drive option.

Device would not stay in place. Used tape to hold still until the hooks would grab. Seemed to work best when hooks were radially apart by 30 degrees.
Screw was too long, cut about 4" off in order to use it on my 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis.

This is a great tool, but it did not work for me on a compact truck. The length of the tool wouldn't alow full compresion of the coil spring on my '92 Chevy S10.

Happy to answer your question! This spring compressor will work for front and rear struts with little issue. Exercise extreme care when using this tool, when tightened the spring is under a lot of tension. Wear safety glasses and keep your face away when using this tool. This tool is available for rent at store locations.

This internal coil spring compressor is used by removed the shock that is located inside the spring, the tool fits thru the shock hole in the lower control arm, the arms are placed on the spring and the bolt is tightened to take up the slack. Once the steering knuckle is disconnected from the lower control arm, the spring can be removed in it's compressed sized. Installation is in reverse with the tool being removed thru the shock hole in the lower control arm.
