  • Q:

My 2004 Lincoln Navigator has an OEM unit with HID low beam. Is this that unit or an OEM unit that uses a regular styled headlight bulb? If it is the latter will it plug into my vehicle as is if i were to choose to change over from the HID. I have a low beam that is out and it is not the HID bulb as the bulb will work when inserted into the other unit.

      A:

I'm happy to help, Chris! This Pilot Passenger Headlamp Assembly (Part No. 20-6583-00) is designed to use halogen headlamps. This information can be located in the Description tab under the Product Application(s) heading after entering your vehicle information into the website.

The connections used for HID headlamps and standard halogen headlamps are very different and the power requirements are different as well. HID bulbs require a more intricate system to power them properly. On the 2004 Lincoln Navigator with the 5.4L V8, the low beams were the only bulbs that could be HID. The high beam bulbs were 9005 style halogen bulbs.

HID bulbs would take too long to warm up in the high beam location for them to be effective for use in that location. If the bulb that you are using is not HID, it should be a 9006 bulb. The HID low beam bulb is Part No. D1R. These bulbs are not interchangable with the HID bulbs.

If the connector has failed, Dorman Part No. 84793 is for the 9006 bulb and Dorman Part No. 84792 is for the 9005 bulb.
