I'm glad to answer you, DCG! The difference between the 1181 and the 1181LS is that in theory, you do not need to remove the distributor LS version. The Non LS version, you must remove the distributor to install the electronic points.

I'm glad to assist, Skip! This PerTronix 1181LS Ignitor Delco Lobe Sensor 8 cyl (Part No. 1181LS utilizes a lobe sensor. Lobe Sensor Ignitors can sense the lobes on the distributor shaft points cam as they go by without physically touching them and trigger the coil circuit accordingly. In applications where the magnet sleeve with a standard Ignitor is easily installed over the points cam, there is no need for a Lobe Sensor. Part No. 1181 is a great choice for your 1957 Buick with the 364 CID V8 engine.
