Comments about Permatex Muffler and Tailpipe Putty:

I purchased this to seal a small hole on the muffler. It was easy to install if you follow the directions and wear gloves. I also let it dry longer than what the specs. stated just to make sure its solid. The problem was solved for short term, after about a week the putty started to crumble up and fall apart and muffler noise came back.

I bought this product to temporary plug a hole in my muffler, I followed all the instruction, let it dry as instructed,It pluged the hole for about a day, then after the second day past it gave way, and muffler back to noisy, wouldnt recommend this product for a repair over 2 inches.

Came across this product in the store one day after being quoted $600.00 to replace a catalytic converter which had a leak in it. Jacked up car and used both packs and instantly bonded and stopped the leak.

if I use this product on my catalytic converter , do I have to wrap it with aluminum foil tape before it totally cures, or first wrapt it with the foil tape then apply the putty last over the foil?

              A:

Hi Shamrock, glad to help you! Directions for use: 1. Clean area with wire brush or scraper. 2. Wet the area to be repaired with water. 3. Apply putty with a putty knife by pressing into hole. If material has hardened in the container, moisten with water. 4. Start vehicles engine and allow to idle for 10 minutes to assist in the drying process. Let the repair dry overnight before using. 5. For large holes, reinforce the repair area with wire or screen mesh before applying putty. For more information, please copy and paste this link. I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem.

          • Q:

I installed an aftermarket converter on my 94 Volvo and I have a leak where it connects to the manifold. Very small.(I got it for 75% off what the dealer wanted so I know because of the cost, its whet I get) but, I was wondering if I could without taking the converter off again, could I use this to seal around where it meets the head? There is no gasket for where the converter pipes meet the exhaust manifold.

It shouldn't matter what temperature it is when it is applied but the temperature may affect the total set time.

I recommend that you do not put the putty where the bolt goes because the putty is for a muffler.
