I have been permatex products for over 30 years and have never been let down by their product, the key to successfully using ANY RTV is in the prep work before applying the sealant.

No, Kap! This Permatex High-Temp Red RTV Silicone Gasket (3 oz) - Part No. 81160 can not be used to replace the head gasket on a small engine. You'll need the Permatex Gasket Sealant - Part No. 85420 for your project.

          A:

Hi Mitch, glad to help you! You will able to use this product to seal water pump bolts as it recommended to use on valve covers, oil pans, timing covers, water pumps, and thermostat housings. DIRECTIONS: 1. For best results, clean and dry all surfaces with a residue-free solvent such as Permatex Brake & Parts Cleaner. 2. Cut nozzle to desired bead size. Gaskets are best formed using a 1/16" to 1/4" bead. 3. Apply a continuous, even bead of silicone to one surface, surrounding all bolt holes. Assemble parts immediately, while silicone is still wet. Finger tighten until the material begins to squeeze out around flange. Allow to dry for one hour then retighten 1/4 to 1/2 turn. 4. Silicone will skin over in one hour and fully cure in 24 hours under normal conditions. Allow more time for cold or very dry conditions. 5. Clean uncured silicone from hands, tools and clothing with Permatex Fast Orange Wipes or Fast Orange Hand Cleaner. NOTE: Not recommended for use on head gaskets or parts in contact with gasoline.

Can I use this to coat the top of a strut top mount, instead of using the gasket from the manufacturer?
        Asked on 10/12/2014 by Larry

        • CUSTOMER CARE

          A:

Hi Larry, I'm glad to help you! No, the product will provide no structural support in its fully cured state. Even if it’s a cover or something that has nothing to do with structural support. The product should never be used for any suspension component under any circumstance. Currently, the product for such application is unavailable online.
