About Me Auto Enthusiast

Comments about Performance Tools Suction Gun:

I bought 2 of these a few years ago to change the VTM-4 fluid in the rear differential of a Honda Pilot. I actually bought 1 for the person who owns the Pilot, and the other one was for me to keep. When I changed the VTM fluid a few years ago I told the Honda Pilot owner to keep the suction gun in a Ziploc bag and not to use it for anything else, so it wouldn't get contaminated with any other fluids. Which she did. However, I went to change that fluid again today and the suction gun wouldn't suck anything. Which sucks. Luckily the job was being done at my house and I still had the spare suction gun from a few years ago, and that got the job done fine. I opened up the old one and saw the inside of the bore was pitted. I don't think it was bad enough to stop the unit from having suction, so I assume the seals went bad. Don't know if that particular Honda fluid doesn't play nice with certain materials or not. In fairness, the old suction gun was stored in the vehicle (don't know why) for all 4 years and was subject to many freeze/thaw/extreme heat cycles. For the cost of the unit, I just threw the old one away. The one I used for the first time today got disassembled and wiped down, then put into a Ziploc for storage. We'll see what happens with that one when I need it in another 3-4 years.

Comments about Performance Tools Suction Gun:

Purchased to fill transmission fluid. Thought this tool would help minimize mess to fill transmission. Would not draw enough suction to even half fill the gun. Ended up unscrewing the hose end and just pouring fluid into the gun. Every time the handle was pulled out it sprayed fluid all over me and the floor. When I laid the gun down, all of the fluid leaked out of the handle end. Obviously, the issue is with the plunger seal. Made a very simple job very, very messy. I spent more time cleaning up fluid from the gun than actually putting fluid into the transmission.

works well for heavy oils. If using trans fluid simply unscrew top(where tube is) fill gun to top, replace top, put finger over tube insert into trans and use as normal.

            Pumps fluid out both ends

Comments about Performance Tools Suction Gun:

While possible to get most gear oil in a rear end, a significant amount leaks through the piston to the handle end. For anything thinner like ATF, forget it. Buy one elsewhere.

Comments about Performance Tools Suction Gun:

Bought yesterday and am returning today.

The tool seemed simple enough; pull the handle and it sucks fluid, push the handle and it pushes fluid out.

The first part work, when you pull the handle it does suction fluid. That's where it stops working; with the handle still fully pulled, fluid pours out it.

TL;DR: It allows the fluid it suctions to escape.

I bought this tool and have just thrown it out. It does not suck. I waste .5 liters for every 2 liters I add to the xfer case. To fill it, you need to unscrew and pour fluid in and apply with your own flexible hose before the fluid comes out the pull handle end. I got more in my eye on one pass then into the case. If I still had the receipt it would be back in the store's care.

Comments about Performance Tools Suction Gun:

My first impression on removing from the box was that the section of vinyl tubing it comes with was very stiff, making it difficult to maneuver into position. The bigger surprise was yet to come, in the form of not actually sucking up any of the oil. After taking the end cap off to check the seal, I discovered it was rather flimsy to begin with and on a *crooked* rod to boot, making it close to impossible to form a good enough seal for suction. I'd look elsewhere.
