The website says this coolant is compatible with my 2007 VW Jetta (2.5) but when I went to pick it up I was informed by Advanced Auto Parts (Brighton, CO) staff that is not true. Only G12 can be used on VW and Audi vehicles. This was confirmed by VW manufacturer. Please remove VW from the compatibility list for this product.

Hi Don, good question! Yes, you can be added this antifreeze to the existing coolant in the vehicle. After adding the coolant follow the original service interval recommended by the manufacturer of the truck.

                • Q:

I have read on technical forums and vintage car club sites that extended life anti freeze coolant comprised of OAT and H-OAT technology ethyl Glycol mixes is harmful to the materials in older vintage (pre-1980) cars as it degrades the gasket materials and tin solder used in older (non aluminum) radiators and engine gasket seals. Yet, the manufacturers and retail outlets say extended life coolants that use OAT ethyl glycol mixes are compatible for use in systems where IAT (inorganic acid technology)mixes were recommended.

What say Ye Advance Auto experts?

I am replacing fluid in a 1975 Cadillac and I don't need engine coolant gasket problems in the future.
Asked on 9/1/2014 by Tom's Garage from Massachusetts Essex County

                  1 answer

                  • CUSTOMER CARE

                    A:

Great question, Tom's Garage! Organic Acid Technology coolant is most commonly sold for GM vehicles that require Dex-Cool. Hybrid Organic Acid Technology coolant was commonly used by Ford and Chrysler and you will normally find this with a G-05 specification. Inorganic acid technology (ethylene glycol and propylene glycol) coolants are becoming harder to find. They were most likely the original fill in that 1975 Cadillac.

If you prefer to stick with a conventional green antifreeze (Part No. PKA0G3/12016), avoid anything labelled as Extended Life. Most of the extended life antifreeze options will not be an IAT type coolant. I also suggest checking the Material Safety Data Sheet or Product Data Sheet for the product to ensure that you are not purchasing a product that contains unwanted chemicals.

There is some evidence that the chemical 2-ethylhexanoic acid that is found in most OAT type coolants can cause problems with your gaskets.

HOAT coolant may actually work well in your vehicle as well. HOAT coolant does still contain silicates and does not contain 2-ethylhexanoic acid. This coolant can be difficult to locate, our Carquest stores carry Zerex G-05 coolant and this is a great option as well.

Peak's Long Life 50/50 Antifreeze/Coolant (Part No. PRA053) with the yellow cap also does not contain the 2-ethylhexanoic acid either. It's a great option for those that need to use a newer coolant in an older car. It does not contain silicates.

                  • CUSTOMER CARE

                    A:

Hi bob, I'm glad to assist you! This vehicle is going to use a conventional green antifreeze. Conventional green is a basic formulation shared by all car manufacturers before the extended life coolant era began. If the vehicle is using conventional green still, I'd recommend sticking with that product. If it has been switched at some point to an extended life product, like the Honda Long Life, then Peak Long Life would be fine to use as it meets Asian requirements by being silicate, borate, nitrite and amine free.

                • Q:

I am a bit onfused ... some Windstar owners say that Ford recommends an antifreeze that has silicates in it. This particular antifreeze does not have silicates in its formula. I plan on removing the current antifreeze and replace it with Peak Long Life. My question: will it be okay for my 2002 Ford Windstar?
Thanks in advance for your advice.

                  • CUSTOMER CARE

                    A:

Hi Don, glad to assist you! There was point in time, roughly 2000-2011 that Ford used a Gold colored product that is considered a hybrid organic acid (HOAT) coolant. This extended life antifreeze still used some inorganic inhibitors, including silicate. While Peak Long Life does not contain silicates, it is still safe to use in Ford applications since silicate isn't a necessary inhibitor to use in a product that uses OAT inhibitors. There is nothing about the Ford that would absolutely require the usage of silicates, this was just a preference on the blend they used to use. The most important thing is that you use an extended life product with another extended life product, which this would be one of those scenarios or use a conventional green product with another conventional green product.

Hi Chirag, glad to assist you! Peak do not have a license to put MB approval on that product packaging, but it meets the requirements for usage in a Mercedes-Benz. It is phosphate free and has a similar corrosion inhibitor package. You can use Peak Long Life without issue in that vehicle.
