                        A:

Hi bob, I'm glad to assist you! This vehicle is going to use a conventional green antifreeze. Conventional green is a basic formulation shared by all car manufacturers before the extended life coolant era began. If the vehicle is using conventional green still, I'd recommend sticking with that product. If it has been switched at some point to an extended life product, like the Honda Long Life, then Peak Long Life would be fine to use as it meets Asian requirements by being silicate, borate, nitrite and amine free.

                    • Q:

I am a bit onfused ... some Windstar owners say that Ford recommends an antifreeze that has silicates in it. This particular antifreeze does not have silicates in its formula. I plan on removing the current antifreeze and replace it with Peak Long Life. My question: will it be okay for my 2002 Ford Windstar?
Thanks in advance for your advice.

                      • CUSTOMER CARE

                        A:

Hi Don, glad to assist you! There was point in time, roughly 2000-2011 that Ford used a Gold colored product that is considered a hybrid organic acid (HOAT) coolant. This extended life antifreeze still used some inorganic inhibitors, including silicate. While Peak Long Life does not contain silicates, it is still safe to use in Ford applications since silicate isn't a necessary inhibitor to use in a product that uses OAT inhibitors. There is nothing about the Ford that would absolutely require the usage of silicates, this was just a preference on the blend they used to use. The most important thing is that you use an extended life product with another extended life product, which this would be one of those scenarios or use a conventional green product with another conventional green product.

Hi Chirag, glad to assist you! Peak do not have a license to put MB approval on that product packaging, but it meets the requirements for usage in a Mercedes-Benz. It is phosphate free and has a similar corrosion inhibitor package. You can use Peak Long Life without issue in that vehicle.

                      • A:

One of the reasons distilled or bottled water is actually preferred over well or city water is well and city water can be on the lower end of the PH scale and therefor acidity.
It isn't necessary to use this though as if you would put one teaspoon of baking soda per gallon of fluid the PH will be at 7 which is neutral and therefor perfect!
By the way FYI 1/4 tsp. of baking soda to a glass of water will do for you what those extremely high priced machines will do.

Hi Bill, great question! Yes, regular tap water is commonly used for mixing with antifreeze. However, deionized water or distilled water is preferred. Do not use water softened with salts to mix with antifreeze.
