Peak BlueDEF Diesel Exhaust Fluid (2.5 Gallons)

Part No. DEF002 Warranty Details
Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is one of the key elements of the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) process used by Diesel Engine builders to meet EPA 2010 regulations. BlueDEF is a nontoxic solution of 67.5% purified water and 32.5% ultra pure automotive grade urea. BlueDEF is not a fuel or fuel additive. Instead, when injected into the exhaust stream and passed over a catalyst, BlueDEF helps convert NOx into nitrogen gas and water vapor - two harmless and natural components of the air we breathe. BlueDEF is stable, colorless and odorless, and meets ISO Standards 22241 for purity and composition and is an American Petroleum Institute (API) certified diesel exhaust fluid. These are the highest quality and safety standards in place to ensure optimum SCR performance. Making sure you do not run out of BlueDEF in a SCR equipped truck is simple - watch the DEF gauge, which is part of the diesel fuel gauge, for when it is time to refill. DEF is stored in a dedicated tank next to the fuel tank on the driver's side. The tanks range in size from 6 to 23 gallons depending on the truck's application. The DEF tank fill opening is designed to accommodate a DEF fill nozzle to ensure only DEF is put into the tank. A diesel fuel nozzle will not fit into the DEF tank opening. Our patented closed liquid dispensing system provides everything you need to effectively dispense your BlueDEF. In order for BlueDEF to work well product integrity is critical and our dispensing systems are the only way to maintain this quality. These reusable systems are also cost effective by providing a significant savings over single-use containers. BlueDEF dispensing systems are available in configurations for fleet, retail and commercial applications. BlueDEF is key to helping improve fuel economy by up to five percent while simultaneously reducing exhaust emissions.

We had a code pop up related to poor DEF quality after putting this in. We did not have any issues with the factory Jeep DEF fluid nor with the Gumout DEF fluid. This was on a 2014 Diesel Grand Cherokee 3.0. After draining the DEF tank of the Peak brand, clearing the code, and refilling with Gumout brand we did not have any issues. Maybe we received a bad batch. Either way, if you get a check engine light after refilling with the Peak, check the OBDII code and google search and see if it is related to poor DEF quality.

Comments about Peak BlueDEF Diesel Exhaust Fluid (2.5 Gallons):

My Advance Auto Parts has a ton of these in stock so I never have to wait for the store to receive them. About the packaging, the cardboard box can be a little tricky as compared to other brands carried by Advance Auto Parts. Once you get the hang of using the box it gets easier and easier. The plastic nozzle wants to be difficult at times to thread so place the entire operation on your tailgate and have the DEF cap off before you start prepping for fill. Don't let the nozzle get away from you because you will have a nice white mess on your hands!

            • Q:

I driven a Chevrolet diesel bus for a few years. The mechanic has never suggested any info on a Diesel exhaust system. And there is no fill opening next to the regular diesel fuel filler opening. How would I recognize the filler tube/tank? Would this be up under the vehicle or in the engine compartment?

If you get BlueDEF on your car painted surface, will it cause damage to the finish?

              • CUSTOMER CARE

                A:

Hi Kathy, I'm glad to assist you. This Peak BlueDEF Diesel Exhaust Fluid (Part No. DEF002) does not damage your car painted surface. Spilling and wiping off with water will leave paint unharmed. A small amount of DEF left on a vehicle will dry but can also be washed away. A large amount of fluid left to dry might pose a problem, and it will stain clothes.

                A:

Hi there Wendy! For your 03 Montero Sport this would not help. This product is to clean up diesel emission. If mixed with anything other than diesel it may have adverse effects on your vehicle. If you have a check engine light that is preventing you from passing the emissions test we suggest taking it to your local store where the code can be pulled and the Parts Pro can suggest what to do based off the code.

I ask auto Zone for some antifreeze and they gave me Blue Def. I did not read anything and came home put it in a 1928 Ford A-model, gas engine, just as I was finishing up I notice that it said diesel on the box. What will this stuff do to my A-model and do I need to drain it.
Asked on 3/4/2015 by Loyd from Cumming, Ga

              1 answer

              • CUSTOMER CARE

                A:

I'm happy to help, Loyd! Peak BlueDEF Diesel Exhaust Fluid (Part No. DEF002) is intended to assist with breaking down the diesel exhaust NOx into nitrogen gas and water vapor. It is not intended for the cooling system of any vehicle. BlueDEF is composed of purified water and automotive grade urea. I suggest draining and flushing the cooling system on your 1928 Ford Model A.

For summer driving, many Model A owners suggest using distilled water and Red Line WaterWetter (Part No. 80204). During the winter, a standard ethylene glycol coolant, such as Peak Conventional Green Antifreeze/Coolant (Part No. PKA0G3/12016), mixed 50/50 with distilled water is suggested.

If you are looking for a year round coolant, the 50/50 mix of ethylene glycol coolant and distilled water is recommended.
