Comments about Needa Parts Tailgate Hinge Insert Kit - Left and Right - Bed and Gate Side:

The passenger side tailgate bushing on my '99 Ranger broke in several pieces. The part lasted 17 years. Not bad! This replacement kit is cheap and fits very well. It looks a little flimsy, and it probably is not as good as an OEM part, but time will tell. It only took me 10 minutes to swap both sides. (No tools needed.) By the way, you only need the two round parts for the Ranger. The "rectangular" ones are for another model/brand.

Comments about Needa Parts Tailgate Hinge Insert Kit - Left and Right - Bed and Gate Side:

This product fit a 1996 Ford F150 fine. There were two rectangle pieces left over that were not needed. Perhaps they were for a Dodge? I no longer have to slide the tailgate to the left to close it.

Comments about Needa Parts Tailgate Hinge Insert Kit - Left and Right - Bed and Gate Side:

I used this kit for a 2000 Ram 2500. The pieces that fit in the tailgate holes were very tight, so tight I thought they were over size. I had to sand the steel hinge and lubricate it with silicon. But still had to use a piece of flat iron across the part, and then hammer the flat iron to get them seated into place. The other two slide over pieces went on no problem. Reinstalled the tailgate, works like new. I'm happy, although I think the inserts are a little too tight.

Comments about Needa Parts Tailgate Hinge Insert Kit - Left and Right - Bed and Gate Side:

Chose this part because it was supposed to be a match for a 1998 Ford F150 tailgate replacement hinge kit. Only one part in this kit actually fit the tail gate hinge but it was a very flimy plastic piece and definitely could not hold the weight of the tail gate. As soon as I engaged the gate to the hinge the plastic piece just crumbled and failed to insert itself in the tail gate opening. Maybe the OEM part was sturdier but this was not. I don't understand why someone thought that this flimsy piece could hold up a truck tail gate! Wasted my money. Would not recommend it either. I went and bought the part from a Ford dealer and experienced the same thing! Metal would be a better option.

              Look at this:
Description tab: "Featuring rust-resistant plating for long-lasting use, Dorman’s Tailgate Hinge Kit restores the proper alignment of the tailgate. Their hardy steel construction prevents cracking and stands up ..."

Specifications tab: "4 inserts Material: Plastic".

What are the true facts? Steel or Plastic???

I have a 2000 f150 and the left side is rusted out on this part of the hinge. I noticed a bracket that had the left riveted in so I was hoping this part...Tailgate Hinge Kit - Left and Right by Dorman - Help (part#38646) / Trunk & Tailgate would replace or go over the bracket on just the left and may as well the right too. Do I assume correct that both these parts are needed and compatible with my 2000 f150 tailgate? The other part does not have my vehicle listed but seems it could easily be rigged and was in similar parts. Please answer quick so I can let person know who is buying.

Are these the actual hinges for the tailgate or just inserts?
I put a 1995 tailgate on my 1998 and the hinges for these years are different. New hinges from Dodge dealer are $350!!
