Comments about Needa Parts Door Hinge Pin and Bushing Kit - 1 Pin, 2 Bushings and 1 Clip:

I have done this job many times ans it is always a little aggravating to install the hinge pins and bushings because the bushings are easy to break if one is not careful when pressing them in. However, for other users to say that they are "junk", "inferior", or "a waste of time" is a little strong. I suspect that these users are not used to doing a job like this and are simply being careless with the installation. I am going to assume that the top hinge is the one being repaired since this is usually the one that wears the most. For starters, one kit does one hinge and only the top hinge has a spring to remove. The bottom hinges are usually ok and won't require this repair. To install the repair kit, Start by removing the old spring. I use Steck spring compressor tool part number (STC21910). The spring can be removed and even reinstalled without this tool using a prybar but it is much easier with this tool. After spring removal, support the end of the door with a floor jack and a 2x4 block of wood. This will help prevent damage to the door. Simply remove the old pin by grinding the head off the pin and tapping it out. The bushings will usually just fall out due to their wear. I then lower the jack allowing the to door to sag so that each half of the hinge will be fully exposed. Drive the new bushings in with a wooden dowel to prevent damage. Line the door back up, lubricate and gently tap in the pins, reinstall the spring and enjoy a door that no longer sags.

Comments about Needa Parts Door Hinge Pin and Bushing Kit - 1 Pin, 2 Bushings and 1 Clip:

This product comes at a resonable price. The pins are fine but the bushings are brittle, and stress on the flange will cause them to chip or break. So be careful when trying to press them into the hinge brackets. Overall they work fine and have returned my door to a easy latch position.

Comments about Needa Parts Door Hinge Pin and Bushing Kit - 1 Pin, 2 Bushings and 1 Clip:

After reading the other reviews, I used a large C-Clamp to press the bushings in instead of tapping them or hitting them with a hammer. I had no problem with the bushings crumbling or breaking. Just take your time and go slow with pressing them in. Time will tell how long they last.

I bought kit for my 2000 blazer. When I saw that the door spring had to be removed, I had a mechanic install it. Two weeks later, the bushing cracked.

Low quality brittle alloy used for bushings.
I had to replace the bushings by purchasing Dorman hinges but Advance Auto did not credit me for the broken ones.

I do not believe that you need any special tools to install this part. Most of these can be taken out and installed using WD-40, a hammer, and something to prop the door up so it does not sag when the old door hinge is taken out.

You will want to have a door spring removal tool to remove and reinstall the spring for the upper bushings to clear. They are about $5 or $6 at Harbor Freight, you may also want a floor jack to take tension off the hinges and to hold the door while you do one hinge at a time.
