Q:I have a 2003 Mustang that the Front seal has worn a couple deep grooves in the harmonic balancer. I am looking at the harmonic balancer sleeve PN:88187, I assume this is to repair these grooves, How do you install it?
A:Yes, the National Harmonic Balancer Sleeve - Part No. 88187 is the correct part for your 2003 Ford Mustang's harmonic balancer shaft. The cup like part in the product image is the installer tool and the hollow part is the sleeve. The flange end of the sleeve goes on the shaft first. Then, place the installation tool over the sleeve. Gently tap the center of the installation tool until the sleeve covers the worn shaft surface. If the installation tool is too short, a length of pipe or tubing with a squared-off, burr-free end can be used. Be sure that the inside diameter of the pipe is the same as that of the installation tool. Use care not to scratch the precision ground sleeve’s outside diameter.
