Good bearing...National bearing is now owned by Moog...the "problem solver", company. I think this bearing will live up to their reputation.

The bearing is a direct-fit replacement for 1996-1999 Saturn SL series. Front bearings CAN be replaced by the average shade tree mechanic. I watched several helpful online videos, reviewed Chilton's and Halnes manuals and asked advice at my local Advance Auto Parts store. With the correct bearing pressing tools, penetrating lubricant, big wrenches and breaker bars....you too can remove and replace these bearings. I removed the tire and wire brushed the strut bolt area thoroughly. Spray painted white the alignment sensitive components so I could find my marks during reassembly. I removed the hub nut, brake caliper, tie rod and ball joint connection. The strut hardware is under tension from the spring. With the " nuckel" on the workbench I selected appropriate bearing sized disks and cylinder for extraction. I prefer this tool to a twelve ton press...because I can mess up slowly and catch any problems. Golly, don't forget to remove the large c-clip retaining the bearing!!! Safety first. Goggles are a must when striking metal with metal.

Comments about National Front Wheel Ball Bearing:

This is the 3rd set of National wheel bearings in the last 3 years. They just don't last, I do all highway driving and have a lot of miles on my car, but the originals lasted 10 years, now I replace them every year. I choose National because my mechanic recommends them, also there are not many options, so I am stuck with National.

Comments about National Front Wheel Ball Bearing:

Replaced both front bearings on my friends and my own car a year ago. My friend had to replace the driver's side three weeks later. Now, a year later, both cars need all replaced again. Judging from the other reviews, we did good to get a full year out these. If you install these bearings, THEY WILL NOT LAST.

Between my father and I we have gone through about 5 wheel bearings in the last year and half between our two saturns. I will be swapping my latest bearing failure out with another brand bearing.

Comments about National Front Wheel Ball Bearing:

I need to replace the second bearing in less than 3 months. It seems unlikely that I could have 2 defective bearings. Could there be another cause such as alignment out of wack that would cause to fail. The store has been good about replacing or will give a refund.

I have been a mechanic for over 50 years working on every thing from small engines, cars, trucks, aircraft, farm equipment, construction equipment, dairy equipment and etc. This is the poorest quality bearing i ever used. I had to replace this bearing on the same wheel 4 times in 5 months. The shortest was 2 weeks or anout 150 miles. the store manager tried to refuse warente
replacement after no.5 untill i called corp. hq.
I got a refund and replaced it with another beand from another supplier. no further problems.
