Top off your Ford or GM ignition system with these great new replacement coils. The blaster TFI and GM coils have MSD Performance in factory style housings! MSD designed these coils by combining our blaster coils experience with core coil efficiency. Each coil has a unique turns ratio plus there is lower primary resistance than the stock coil. This all amounts to a bolt in replacement coil that produces more output voltage. The coils will work with stock ignition systems as well as MSD equipped cars and trucks. Installation tip if you plan to install an MSD Ignition with your blaster TFI coil, use a PN 8874 harness for a direct plug in installation. For the blaster GM coil, use a PN 8876 harness. Also available blaster GM dual connector coil PN 8226.

Product Features:
  • Designed to work with stock ignition systems as well as mad-equipped cars and trucks
  • Each coil has a unique turns ratio plus reduced primary resistance
  • Bolt-in replacement coil produces increased output voltage
  • If you plan to install an MSD Ignition with your blaster Ford TFI coil, use a PN 8874 harness for easy plug-in installation

Comments about MSD Ignition Coil, Ford TFI Replacement:

I installed this coil on my 1993 F-150 4.9l pickup truck. I upgraded the distibutor cap, button, wires, and plugs at the same time. No magic increase in fuel consumption, power, or much else. There may have been a slight improvement in idle, but that could have been my wishful thinking.

Everything was fine for about 5 months, when without warning, while attempting to cross a busy intersection my truck began to stumble, stall, and barely drug itself out of the intersection. How embarrassing. Because of my experience, I would not in good faith recommend this item.

This says it is an exact fit replacement for a 1995 ford probe GT ?? Maybe the plug may be same but what do you do with coil wire ?? The stock system has coil built into distributor and does not use a "coil wire" ...

        A:

The MSD Ignition Ford TFI Replacement Coil - High Performance (Part No. 8227) does not come with a coil wire and the recommended Part No. 8874 Wiring harness is optional only. Only to get a more ignition performance the 8874 harness is required for a direct plug-in installation. I have a 1994 Ford Explorer 4.0 engine. Sometimes while driving it shuts off for no reason and is a hard to start again. Other times it runs fine and doesn't shut off at all. Anything I should key in on to replace?

I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not solve or be the problem.

FOrd mounted the TFI module on the distributor in many models in 80's and early 90's. The module overheats and stalls car, then won't start until cool.(sound right?) I have the same problem on both of my mustangs, I'm trying to figure out how to move it away from the block to keep it cooler. Do a little web searching and you can find cooling fins ect.

    • Q:

I have a 1992 Ford Tempo and it has a history of having an irregular idle when it is running and also when you first start to go it kinda spudders along but then once you are going its fine. When you come to a stop to it almost wants to die and sometimes it will. It usually starts right back up but i recently sprayed electrical contact cleaner where the MAF sensor was where someone was saying that could be the problem and it did run a lil better just for a bit but others have constantly said its the TFI. So I was wondering what the general consensus was on this.

It could be this or your idle air control valve.

        A:

Hiya Lance. My wife had the same problem with her 92 tempo. I replaced the spark plugs/spark plug wires, ignition coil, distributor cap/rotor and to this day it purrs like a kitten. If you haven't already done that, give it a try. If it still has the same problem after replacing the parts I mentioned. The problem could range from replacing the MAF Sensor, the TFI module/wire harness or even a vacuum hose.

        I hope this was helpful,
