These high performance thermostats are designed to resist large variations in coolant pressures that occur at high RPM's where coolant temperature and coolant pressure fight for control of the thermostat keeping it from opening at its designated temperature. The balanced HP thermostat features all brass and copper construction, and opens at the right temperature regardless of engine RPM.

Comments about Mr. Gasket High Performance Thermostat:

I had a 160 degree Mr. Gasket heavy duty thermostat in my 1988 Silverado and it ran at exactly 160! I needed a higher temp for winter and did not know they came in anything but a 160. I bought a Stant 195 degree thermostat. My truck ran about 200-210 degrees! I bought a 180 degree Stant thermostat and my truck still ran at 200-210! I found a 180 Mr. Gasket heavy duty thermostat and now my truck runs at exactly 180! Will probably buy a 195 degree and replace it. They say race only but its fantastic for normal driving.

It has "180" stamped on it (in the pic) and even has the "degree symbol" as well. But you have to know how to read and KNOW automotive symbols to "get it!"

                -No,

---The Mr. Gasket high performance thermostat looks identical to the image shown. It's a remake of the old RobertShaw thermostat, having a large bell at the bottom, where the Saturn will have 2 locking tabs, 180° from center of each other.

---Your thermostat may also come with a cardboard tube around it. Don't tear that cardboard up if it does. The cardboard tube is a tool used for installing the thermostat. You set the thermostat down & twist to lock it in like you would an old radiator cap.

---If you're having cooling issues that effect the transmission shifting & fuel delivery, your problem is most likely in the Engine Temperature Control Sensor. This isn't the Coolant Temperature Sensor that operates the light/gauge, this is the sensor that sends info to the PCM.

---I posted part numbers, description & more here http://tinyurl.com/28pjmys at CarKB under the Saturn forums. I still don't see the ETCS part number listed on sites. I got it directly from Saturn & crossed it
