My truck quit running after i left a funeral home, my friend passed away over the weekend, anyways, i thought it was a clog in my fuel line because my old pump was getting power and turning on, but it had no suction. to find out if you have a clogged line or if your fuel pump is blown, take a gas can with a gallon of gas, stick one end of a hose into it, and see if your getting any gas from the can, if you are, your fuel pump is fine, if not, you need a new one. i went to advanceauto up the street, talked to a guy there, bought a new pump, and it was fantastic works great and my Truck doesn't randomly sputter or cut off anymore. it really does shoot the gas out of it. it's great. i don't know where these other reviewers are going wrong, but my gas line runs up vertically about 2 feet before reaching my pump, i have an old 84 f150, and it worked right, maybe those other reviewers had bad fuel lines, they can have small leaks and suck in air which defeats the purpose of the fuel pump suction, glad i could explain stuff for you guys, i'm new to trucks myself but it wasn't hard to fix or figure out.

The package on the pump says that this pump will lift fuel 12 inches. I mounted this pump at the top of my tank. On the instructions they show the pump mounted at the bottom of the tank. Unfortunitly the fuel in my tank is drawn from the bottom to the top as most fuel tanks on autos are designed. When I first tried the pump there was only a half tank of fuel,so I filled the tank, the pump still would not draw fuel even though the neck of the fuel tank which is higher than the pump was full of gas.

Car kept dying, various conditions. Final diagnosis FUEL starvation. This model pump was installed by previous owner so I was surprised when I bought the same ( just bought for price / purpose /convenience before knowing it was same ) as a replacement. FAILED again , not even two months of usage. I no longer have confidence in Mr. Gasket products !!!

Comments about Mr. Gasket Electric Fuel Pump:

I used this universal low pressure pump to replace my expensive stock low pressure electric pump on my Onan RV generator. It worked perfect as the specs are the same. Amazingly Mr Gasket puts the filter before the pump.
For the complaints, this pump is not designed for most old cars. It is rated at 2-3.5 psi. Old mechanical pumps were about 6-9 psi. The Mr. Gasket 12S is a better choice for you.

Plan to use another on current restore in progress without even waiting to see if the one on the engine works.

I'm happy to help, Jack! The carburetor's fuel pressure requirements will determine the required fuel pressure regulator to use with this Mr. Gasket Electric Fuel Pump (Part No. 42S). This electric fuel pump can be used as a supplement to a mechanical fuel pump as well.

                        A:

Thank you for contacting us! This is a gravity feed fuel pump. The pump needs to be installed within 12 inches of the fuel tank and mounted level with or below the pick up tube within the fuel tank. The pump is a constant running pump and will continue to run while 12 volts is applied to the unit. It will push fuel but will not pull the fuel. This also has a maximum draw of 12 inches. Our pumps are rated for regular pump gas containing up to 10% alcohol. There is not an internal bypass in this pump.
