The Motorcraft Original Equipment Oil Filter is designed, engineered and recommended by Ford Motor Company. This filter helps protect against engine wear by screening out abrasives, such as carbon, sand, dust and bits of metal before they can get into your oil.

Product Features:
  • Pressure-relief valves help minimize the chance of contaminated oil circulating back into the engine
  • Pressure-relief valves also help maintain the supply of oil to the engine under extreme cold conditions or if the filter gets clogged
  • Steel cases are “ironed” for a precise fit, fluted to ease removal and painted to resist rust
  • Efficient filter media offers increased dirt-collecting capability and ability to capture more engine-harming particles

                    A:

I'm happy to help, Leeboy! This Motorcraft Oil Filter (Part No. FL-500S) does not use synthetic media. This filter uses a paper media. If you are looking for an oil filter that may also fit and has synthetic media, Purolator Synthetic (Part No. PSL22500), Mobil1 Extended Performance (Part No. M1-212), Fram Ultra (Part No. XG10575), Royal Purple Extended Life (Part No. 20-500) and ProMotive (Part No. PH2500) oil filters all utilize synthetic media.

I was unable to locate a synthetic media oil filter from Motorcraft.

                    A:

Hi Kenster, happy to help you! This filter is designed to help protect against engine wear by screening out abrasives, such as carbon, sand, dust and bits of metal before they can get into your oil. Pressure-relief valves help minimize the chance of contaminated oil circulating back into the engine and also help maintain the supply of oil to the engine under extreme cold conditions or if the filter gets clogged. The outer casings are constructed of steel, “ironed” for a precise fit, painted to resist rust and include flutings to ease removal. The efficient filter media offers increased dirt-collecting capability and ability to capture more engine-harming particles. Silicone anti-drain back valves help prevent oil from draining out of the filter and engine when the engine is not running and resist the aging effects that an engine’s high heat can cause.

                    A:

I'm happy to help, Burt! The K&N Oil Filter (Part No. HP-2011) that fits the 2012 Ford Escape Limited with the 3.0L DOHC V6 Flex-Fuel and 2013 Chevrolet vehicles with the 3.6L V6 (LTZ is a trim level). The nut only adds approximately 3/4" to the height of the filter. The K&N filter is 4.781 inches tall and the standard filter is 4.02 inches tall. There should not be any clearance issue with the engine. To be certain, I suggest measuring the clearance you have for installing and removing the filter on the vehicle.
